What about undervolting a regular 60mm fan?

I have a coolermaster 60mm that is pretty quiet out of the box, but undervolted it is super quiet, though it doesn't push much air.

If they had the Speeze FalconRock on eBay in Canada, hell yes. It's an awesome K7 cooler for its ridiculously low price. Plus the stock fan is really quiet.

You can thank me later - send me the $20 you saved because you bought it.

The AMD64 CPUs will cool nicely. What are your temps in Sandra?

I'd recommend using (if it fits) the Zalman 7000Cu CPU cooler.

Your video card? If you can get a Zalman FSB123 bracket and a quiet fan, maybe you could blow if over the video card and remove the "screamer" that is on it.

THe BIOS (almost always) lies about Temperature readings.

Use Sandra 2004 to report CPU temps:

There could be too much play between the HS and the CPU. I have the 7000Cu and it has a bit of play. Can you move the HS when it is on the CPU? I can, but I have a mobile and its highest temp readings are 38-40C (running F@H 24 hours).

Also, where are you getting your temps from?

42C? That's probably running cooler than your HDD. That sucker can handle 85-90C.

Heck, I would even undervolt the fan on it with those temps!

Good luck!

I'm not sure about the Q technology. It wouldn't hurt to try. If it plugs into the motherboard and the software can monitor the speed, then I'm pretty confident it would work. The Fanmate will work with a three-slotted fan plug (just like the one the Zalman has), so if you have a molex connector on ...

The Zalman should kick the Shizzle out of that Intel HSF and be more quiet in the process... I did notice that there is a bit of "play" with the way my 7000Cu sits on my AMD64m CPU, but I've read elsewhere that this is normal. My temps are excellent, so I haven't thought of changing it. By the way, ...

The Zalman has a fanmate which allows you to manually adjust your speeds. I'm running mine on an AMD64m at its lowest speed - 38C Load.

MaXtors are notorious for running about 5C higher than any other disk. MaXtors have pretty much been banned from SPCR and haven't made a product (though the 10...

I'm more worried about heat...

I'm one of the people who isn't bothered by seek noise, and the Seagate 7200.7 is really quiet anyway. If they do become quieter, this would be great - but the smaller capacities will not be available to have a single platter, right?

The 7000AlCu doesn't cool as well as Intel's stock Heatsink? Are you sure that it is properly mounted on the CPU? As far as I read on Zalman's site, 370 is a go, and so is 478.

All of Newegg's compatible 423 heatsink/fans are here:
