Every time when a person starts talking about a wooden case there is at least one overly paranoid person replying about firehazard and another one about EMI. Just ignore them. There is nothing in your PC that will ever get hot enough to get solid wood burning. (There is a reason people use tinder t...

What about cutting a 120mm hole on the top of the case? Install a duct from the top hole straight into the HSF, then slow it down. Remove the 60mm fan. I think what is happening is that the 60mm fan is robbing the HSF of the cool air. Other thing to try. Block the other 60mm hole, Reverse the 60mm f...

You dont need to add a plate to ground the psu. The Psu is already grounded to the mains electricity. In a metal case, the case is then grounded to the PSU. ie. Ground - Mains cabling - PSU - Case & components. If you use a wood case it goes... Ground - Mains cabling - PSU - components. The case doe...

You could do the 7v trick and power the fan off a spare molex. Some say that it carries a risk, but I have never heard of a specific example of it doing any damage. Are you still wanting to use pwm with your 7v fan? If not use a molex. I use a 12v-7v adaptor on my CPU fan (sorry I dont know the orig...

Just a couple of other points to consider. PSU's hold onto fairly massive amounts of charge even when switched off. Be very carefull to discharge the PSU before you work on it. Leaving it for a few days will work, alternatively you can disconnect it from the mains and start the computer up a few tim...

I have built a case from MDF and can chip in my two pence worth. 1. Very simple one, I have often read that the motherboard mounting screws actually ground the motherboard to the case. Now, I'm planning on building my case out of wood (probably MDF), in which case it wouldn't really be much of a gro...

I used them in this design. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=23726&highlight=interiour+design I had to snip the end caps off to make them fit my silent drive, but this was no problem. I would do this also if you are using them with a suspended drive. The end caps are pretty infexable...

LOL.... I have managed to repair boards this way in the past, its a pain to do. Last time I think I layed the ink about 20 times, before getting a neat enough result. The thing that works in your favour on this type of job is the varnish layer. As long as you scrape off just the amount you need, you...

The Conductive ink from the pen. It has some sort of silver compound in it. Yes, its like the pencil mod on old athlon processors (I bought it to allow me to unlock my pally processor). A Pencil wont be any good though, you need to use conductive ink Have you worked out yet if you have damaged the t...

If you have damaged a trace, a conductive ink pen is your get out of jail free card. They dont cost a lot, what you do is.. with a sharp blade scrape the varnished layed off the ends of the trace that is damaged. Then mask off a line between them. Apply the ink, a little bit later remove the masking ...

Nice work Bluefront. I think that this case will give all who see it a few good ideas on building ducts. Not sure that everyone would be able to implement the whole scheme. I have the Big Typhoon. The fans are labelled Hong Sheng. I've compared it though to the Nexus 120mm fan (also a loonie) and can say this. The fans are near identical. Same blade profile, same casing. The only diference I can see is that the the Hong Sheng Fan had a better finish on the casing from ...

In my wooden pc case I stole the 5 1/4' drive bays from an old atx mini tower. It was riveted to the front of the tower. I use a silentdrive. It cools a cuda v 120GB and is suspended in a completely passive case. My drive temps are in the early 40's. I would be loathed to change mine, because it does exactly what is says on the tin. Takes the last few DB's out of that (reasonably quiet) cuda. I was intending to mod th...

As for a wooden case, I don't think wood protects against EMI so you may have to consider it a little further. It may turn out a health hazard. I'd go with the Antec P180 (perhaps the Black or even the SPCR SE version). Surely your not telling me that you aren't wearing a tin foil hat??!!! An inter...

Get rid of them, nice wire grills look better IMO and are less resistive. Iff your temps are good, removing them wont make much difference to you, but you will notice that your wind noise is reduced as well. I got a few degrees drop in the system temps when I dremelled out the honeycombe rear of the...

The OHP has a double lense arangement on it (and a pretty good one it seems, very little distortion.) I think that the main problem is that the OHP is designed to display from a wider and taller source. The projection panel is only 8'. A lot of the light being produced by the bulb is simply being bl...

justblair: that panel sounds quite nice. i think given your supposed destruction of a 15" lcd panel in the past, an 8" should be much easier to handle :) also, as peteamer points out, it'll let you stay away from the edges of your lenses and so you'll get a better image. another good thing about pr...
