... 2. Combine the airflow for the CPU and PSU in series. It seems to me that for a given total airflow, you might provide better cooling with option 2 (PSU exhaust ducted through CPU). The PSU is cooled by twice as much air, so it will run cooler. The CPU is cooled by twice as much air, although i...

The point I could have made is: if the PSU does not dissipate more heat than the CPU, it is not illogical to put it in front of the CPU. Even though I agree with the conclusion, I think the argument is flawed because it does not consider heat tolerance, which is at least as important as heat disspa...

If you add a system like this, my dreams of coming back and leaving you behind for good are shattered  Sorry to be offtopic. I see no point in sendig air to the CPU that has already been preheated by the PSU. ... Heat=noise I don't quite agree. It's airflow=noise, heat itself is actually quite silent. And of course having parallel airflow streams cooling PSU and CPU would keep components cooler, but it means doubling air...

You've missed another reason for the "spoiler": to help stop people from accidentally blocking the hole by setting stuff there. Doohh. I really should have thought about this one, given that I manage to clutter every square centimetre of horizontal surface within minutes... (And adding more horizon...

The top "spoiler" - Why not use a solid design, as to redirect noise to the back of the case, instead of allowing it to be released upward? Then again, this could easily be fixed with black electrical tape. You know, I've been wondering (aloud) about that ever since I saw the first images of the sp...

maybe its in the wording, but the PSU would be taking warm air from in the case, heating it more and blowing it at the CPU,which would need big rpms to get much heat transfer. You would need real high rpms also in the psu as it then re-sucks the same air and creates a heat cycle. Sorry, I wasn't clea...

If there're no intake fans installed, will air be pulled in only through the dust filters? Probably not. Unless the case is completely airtight except for the fan holes, some air will leak through the spaces between the optical drive bay panels, etc, but most of it should come in through the filter...

Let's see. The functionality of the soft is grouped in seven tabs: Status : This one displays the state of the CPU, the battery, temperatures and the status an ATI graphics card. Most of this should work everywhere. For me it doesn't show the case temperature (I suspect I only have a single temperat...

Hi all, I got a new Samsung X20 Notebook recently and as promised , I'm sharing a few impressions for the European and Asian SPCR readers (Samsung notebooks are not sold in America). Overall Quality and Handling I'm very pleased with the quality and style of the notebook. At 2.4kg it's not too heavy...

Re: New Asus Notebooks with Power4Gear+
If the fan turns in in 50C , is there any possibility for the CPU to reach this temperature(under FULL LOAD) when it's clocked in 1GHZ. Only someone with the specific model you intend to use can tell you that. FWIW, I have defined custom voltages for each multiplier setting of the Pentium-M 730 (1....

I don't know about The X15 or X30, but I just bought an X20, and the fan is not always on. The fan is teperature controlled, in two modes: "standard" and "etiquette". Undervolting the CPU and running Prime torture test, the fan remains off for CPU frequencies up to 1GHz, switches on/off intermittent...

Any experience with Toshiba Satellite M30X?
I'm in the marked for a notebook, and this one looks like having a decent price/performance. But on some forums, people repeatedly mention the fan of the M30X coming on often / irregularly. This can be avoided in the "quiet mode" in Windows, which is achieved by quite severe underclocking if I under...

Great, thank you for that answer, ckolivas . Seems a lot clearer now. I suppose what timing is best for restarting the process depends on typical machine useage. For me it would be seconds, but others might prefer your current default. Any chance of making it a command line parameter? I'll try again...

Ok, here are my first impressions (only tried just now): First off, it runs! I just used, as you suggested "idlerun ./FAH502-Linux.exe". But I likely need to fine-tune some parameters. Currently, FAH will regularly produce enough CPU activity to shut itself down (at least that's what I assume): I wa...

I'll definately try it, but I hardly had time to stop by SPCR lately, let alone tinker with F@H. Thanks a lot for your efforts, though. Nice setup, Shriek !! Concerning your PSU dilemma, why don't you move the PSU a little further into the case (towards the front). It looks like you have plenty of space before you hit the optical drive. And judging from your terrific CPU duct, ducting the PSU exhaust to the back should be a breeze f...
