WTB: Intel E4x00 or E6x00 775 processor

Working on a HTPC for the TV in the basement and have a nice HP system with Windows Media Center on it. Looking to upgrade but the mobo chipset is limited to the E4x00 or E6x00 processors. Trying to do this as cheap as possible and thought someone in SPC land might have one. PM or email me with what...

You beat me to it. I am going to older another one... So how good is the 65W PSU? I have no interest in the case, slim DVD. But I have a Foxconn mini-ITX/Atom 330 with a 5.25 and 3.5 bay with a dreadful ~200W PSU. $43 for a 65W PSU is a good deal. What do you mean by "how good?" It is fine for what...

GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L Motherboard I have used this board to build three different systems. One with an e5200 for me and two with e3200's (one for church office and one for local business) in the past year. All are running onboard graphics. Can't tell much difference between the e5200 and e3200. Had...

Re: E5400 power requirement ?

It's difficult to find an intel E5200 at the moment. Could the stock power converter(65Watt) power the E5400 instead ? The E5400 is much better to get at the shops but will it be hotter and can it be powered in this case ? Henk I am running the e5300 without problems so I would expect the 5400 to a...

Celeron 3200 is a much better processor for an Intel based system and for $10 more. The 430 does not support speed stepping and in my actual experience it runs much hotter than the three different Wolfdale processor I own. +1. My idle power consumption actually dropped when I replaced the Celeron 4...

Intel: Celeron 430 35w Zotac NF610I-K-E I've got an older version of that board and it works great for what it is. The only problem I have with it is that it only has two SATA ports, that newer has a total of four. If I had found that board two weeks ago I would have used it for my WHS box. :) AMD:...

You might consider the APEX MI-008. With a little work you can get 2 3.5" drives in there. Mount one in the intended drive location and suspend one below it. I am working on this for my office as I type and will try to post pics tomorrow. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811154091

Thanks for sharing your experience. I really was questioning getting the 65w version but after your experience I am quite happy with my choice. I think a Pico PS might fit the bill well for you but as you mentioned that same thing could be accomplished on the 65w case like mine.

I have a black and blue version of the 640 versions. The biggest difference I can tell is the additional cache. From my perspective there is little difference in noise levels and I have not watched temps enough to be aware of the differences. Maybe someone else will chime in for you.

Re: Silent recycled pc

I liked the 865 chips with onboard graphic. simply nice. The case was tortured by the bad compaq combo that was in it. I simply cleaned out the ionization (eww nasty!) , heatshrunk the wring ends to fit any motherboard, and used oe lights. I left the floppy installed, and not used. Another save. Ni...

The ISK 300-65 and the 3.5" hard drive combo is not an "out of the box" fit. I considered it but did not want to cut up the inner case bracing. I considered that as an option but did not want to cut up the case bracing and it would have placed the drive closer to the heatsink than I am comfortable with. I tired to suspend it above the power supply under the optical drive using zip ties and velcro but was not happy with that location. Anothe...
