Steve: That seems like a good option. Have you used any of those IDE->usb2 converters before? If so, how is the performance on them? Also, is there any IDE->Firewire converters? I haven't been able to find any of the latter, and Firewire seems to transfer faster (cam vs mp3 player in my case). micha...

Cool and quiet external enclosure?

Hi, for a Maxtor DM10 300gb drive, I need an external enclosure for transportable uses (transfer files from home->work). However, the last two I've tried, both which I got for about $30, have brought the temps to 50º C and higher. I'm wondering if any of you have had any drive enclosures which reduc...

Nice, I was hoping something like this would happen. They don't mention price though, so we can only hope they won't be too pricey. Specs are still slower than the RocketDrive, but they are faster than SCSI drives so I GUESS it's ok...

I had the exact same problem happen to a cousin of mine, Bluef. Like previous poster(s) have said, the lack of filters probably has to do with the assumption that you'll have upgraded before your hardware bogs down due to dust. Also, to make sure that air can only go through the filter, it'd probabl...

PSU above ram, bad idea?

I'm considering a setup where the PSU would be held above the ram (about 1cm). My question with this is that would the ram be affected in any way from the close proximity of the psu (EMI, RFI, MFI, etc)? PSU is Enermax Noisetaker 425. Thanks :)

Yes, I know many will disagree. But I have heard ATCs on a few occasions (with EMM Labs gear, and with my own CDs and SACDs, so I was familiar with the rest of the system) and have always been disappointed. Not, "oh these sound like s**t, like the Genelecs," but more like, "for all the hype these a...

But seriously, have you ever really listened to a pair of Genelecs or JBLs or ATCs? Yeesh, you're ragging on ATC's? I'd like to ask you if you've really listened to them for a while; they sound great and are one of the few makers whose speakers project an orchestra well imo. Even for it's musicalit...

I'd say it's the nexus; wouldn't doubt that you just got a sample that doesn't start at <6v. I remember an old yate loon that wouldn't start at 5v but would work if I gave the fan a push with a finger.

Can you clean the room/building to reduce the dust in the area of the computer? Nah. The room is cleaned often but...I don't know where it keeps coming from, maybe from the vents. No idea. Low dust collecting case?

Hey guys, I'm wondering if you guys could recommend a case that is or can be modded to be decent at filtering dust. Currently I'm using an Antec 3700AMB with the holes around the front fan taped but seems like every week I still have to open it up to give the heatsink/fans/filter a scrubbing. A very...

P4 CPU load temps of 59 degrees with no fans is pretty good (and safe) I'd say. First time I've seen this power mosfet temp check, and even if it is something to be concerned of, I haven't heard any problems in watercooling setups which would suffer as well *shrug*.

Karma, there is a possiblity that those fans run at that speed to maintain the efficiency and other power benefits that come along with it. Perhaps a psu designed to run with low airflow might be better for modding? Just a thought, I'm not sure myself of the answers :D

The Panaflo L1A, or any 38mm thick fan, does fit if you remove the fan holder and attach it normally, though that does require some drilling or filing. That or decide to mount the fan via tie wraps :D
