I don't know if anyone (me included) has been able to stay 100% on topic... then again, what WAS the topic? Was it: 1) "Does anyone want to even try to silently cool the 600 series Prescotts?" or was it 2) "Is there a reason to buy a desktop Dothan setup for 2x the price of an A64 setup?" I think i...

(forgot to add this to last post) To my knowledge, the 6600GTs do not have any power connectors on them, unlike 6800s, X800s, etc. I have a 6600GT and it has a 4-pin molex...tried running it without it and it performed slower than the 32Mb 3dfx card it replaced, put the juice to it and it runs great...

Re: Nexus NX-4090 blows air in instead of sucking it out

To get at net airflow, you could light one of these smoking/smelling sticks (damn, can't remember how to call that in english) and see where the smoke goes. Ask your wife/girlfriend/sister/mom ;) Or your friendly neighborhood hippie. My stepsister who is currently living in a biodome buys them from...

Wow, this post got a lot of traction. :D It's not just the name Intel that sells. "Pentium 4" sells. Even "Athlon" sells. Why do you think both companies have gone through different sockets and cores and still keep the same name. We've had Athlon in our vocabularies since 1999, and Pentium 4 since 2...

Intel throws down the gauntlet

Is anyone up to the challenge? Anand recently got the power draw numbers up on the new 6xx series (I assume they're fairly accurate, not sure of their methodology), as seen here. The newest EE draws an astounding 233W at full load! I was hoping that the 6xx series would draw a little less po...

Ah, thanks for the link, lenny. It's not a typo, if you check out the 80plus website you'll see where I got that from. Regardless, after reading the wikipedia entry I'm pretty sure you're right; they're the same thing.

Everyone on this website is so helpful; I'm donating today

Yeah, keep us up-to-date, from all I can tell from their website the Ecos company that's behind this has much loftier goals than just power supplies, but I think that's great....cool stuff on there nonetheless (I thought this article was particularly eye-opening, I'll be hunting through my house thi...

Nifty organization, first I've heard of it. What do you think the odds are that the manufacturers will pass those $5-$10 savings on to us? :?

The new Foxconn Mobo can be seen here.

Only undervolts to 1.2, but still a 20% reduction. Also cheapest NF4 mobo that I've seen anywhere.

does have active cooling on northbridge, though

I will DEFINITELY be getting a pair of BOSE top of the line noise cancelling headphones very soon. You will LOVE them. They have made long plane trips and sessions with lots of trumpet players bearable again. Although mine have a low-level hiss that we normally associate with dirty power(only notic...

i don't think that continuous monotone noises are necessarily of great disturbance; indeed, the human auditory cortex is supposed to periodically ignore such sounds - e.g. ringing noises/artefacts. Many other people i speak to say they don't notice their computer noise anymore because it's always t...

Too bad they didn't make the PSU out of cardboard as well
It'd be just a little too ironic to have a PSU made out of cardboard for environmental purposes when it's drawing 400W

Seriously, though, I'd love to see some specs if anyone gets one 'o these.

The depressing thing about all this to me is that I just bought this exact same config in a Powermac G4 about a year ago for over $1300 before tax/shipping. meh. FWIW, my experience with macs (as a PC user, forced to use them all the time) is that they're relatively quieter than an average PC, but n...

Thanks for the warm welcome :) It would indeed be nice to see a bit more competition along the silent front...although I agree that things are improving. "Cool" new WD drive (sorry, bad pun)

Just surfing around this morning and came across this . Although I highly doubt their claims of "nearly silent", I thought it was interesting that these are the coolest-running drives they've ever had, beating the 7200.7 by 4 degrees and everything else by 7-8. Might be useful for those who are susp...
