Ahem, I suggested the Cu version because the A revision Cu cooler at SVC was cheaper than the B revision Al-Cu
Really, the Al-Cu is a better choise of course. And as far as I can see there's no difference between A and B revisions (I have both)

If cost is a concern, go for the Zalman 7000A-Cu not 7700. Forget the paxmate, it really doesn't do anything (a quality quiet PSU will go further in silencing), forget the rounded cables, ribbon cables are just as good or even better, if you take the time to do it right. So that's $3 for CPU, $3.5 f...

ckolivas gives good advice. Check out the review on sound dampening foams. AFAIK, the paxmate was pretty much useless. The useful ones are expensive too. Before you go for such measures, try to control the noise sources first. Dampening foam is usually the finishing touch. Which is not to say you do...

IMO, in a case with such a good airflow setup, 2x120 fans will definitely be enough. You could even run two Nexus fans heavily undervolted and still be cool. Even one 120mm fan could do it if you didn't have so many disks. If for any reason you don't like the results, adding an undervolted Nexus 92m...

WELCOME TO SPCR !!! That looks like a new Nexus cooler and the 800 rpm suggests a review by SPCR might be in order. Previous nexus CPU coolers - unlike their fans - were a bit of a dissappointment. Those used 70mm fans. This one has a 80mm fan so "quiet" might actually be true this time. However, u...

I thought that was everflow, not enermax. anyhow, the tek-chain looks suspiciously like a Power Cooler fan to me. It's not on their website but the numbering scheme and the plastic casing mold looks too similar. Power Cooler is the company that makes the Zalman fans and I suspect the Coolermaster LE...

grosskur, WELCOME TO SPCR!!! yeha, I've tried doing a similar suspention but got worse temps than I expected. I'm still trying and will post results with pics - hopefully this week Mupp, check out my suspension in my sig (a 3700AMB, could also work with a 3000B). With a little tweaking you should be...

Your prescott (presHOT :) ) CPU temps are a bit highish but not unheard-of. The P4s have the nasty habit of scaling back the CPU power to prevent overheating and I have the feeling your load temp is when your CPU has been throttled. Do some benchies (for extended periods) to judge behaivour. As for ...

WOW! That's some fast posting going on here :) poohbear, if you'll check my sig, you'll notice that I've slowed down my Zalman fan to insanely low levels. It's got a fanmate and an inline resistor, plus is being undervolted to 8V by the motherboard. At the extremely slow speed it's running, the nois...

Using the search function turns up these informative threads: Athlon 64 software cooling (disconnect/HLT/Cool&Quiet) Even better, you can just browse to the top of the 4th page on the review of Athlon64 processors on this site here Now, to the original questions: #1: The zalman is capable of cooling...

Of the three the Zalman 7000B will be "enough" (read not the best but will do the job). When run at 5V, it may be quiet enough unless you suspend your harddisk. If you do suspension, further undervolting the fan to 3V or a fanswap with a Nexus 92mm would be a good idea. I believe the Zalman is also ...

The stock cooler is a no-no. not only will it be loud, it'll also be inadequate (ie your CPU will start throttling down) when you start folding (you will, won't you  ) What's wrong with an XP90? Or a Zalman 7000 (This MAY be a bit inadequate for a 3.4 though) With a good CPU cooler you definit...

yeha, That's a 80mm nexus you linked to. However, I did compare it to my own nexus. First, the electrical specs are wrong. The Nexus 92mm is a 0.25A fan. Second, the blade surface area of the foxconn is significantly smaller than the nexus. But I agree that this is probably a foxconn original produc...

Ok, went ahead and read the article. They've used Prime95 so that would invalidate my %80 TDP assumption. However, it's obvious from their data that CnQ isn't enabled. In fact they explicitly state that clock throttling is disabled. Plus I didn't see any mention of PSU efficiencies anywhere? Interes...

Let's do some calculation. power drop due to voltage drop: 1.1^2 / 1.4^2 = 38% power drop due to speed reduction: 1.0 / 1.8 = 44% In total the power drop is 82%. Assuming a 80% load being the max utilization (I didn't look at the review, just guessing) : If 82% power drop is just 10W, then full powe...

BigDu21, Unless your AthlonXP is a mobile/unlocked chip or your motherboard supports undervolting, you have to do some vidpinning to be able to undervolt. Or you might try software like 8rdavcore and see if it works. Undervolting is really easy, especially if you can do it with software. Start your ...
