While I'm waiting for the new pieces to arrive, I thought I'd try some more things with this duct setup. So I replaced the little air scoop for the HD chamber, with a 60X10mm Yate Loon. That's the biggest fan that I can fit....a 70mm fan hits the edge of the video card. SpeedFan can control this fa...

it will take some more time before we see affordable 1tb ssd's.

and in the meantime the data-space-hunger will keep growing and the mechanical drive people don't want to be out of business.

so it will not take long before we see 2tb, 4tb even 10tb hdd's

Re: The grill at the lower back of the SOLO

Now I don't know, you confused me a bit with the last paragraph... I always thought, looking at pics of SOLO rigs here, that the fresh air drawn in from the front would travel across the memory area before getting to the cpu area. This should be especially true when the back vent is blocked, becaus...

Re: The grill at the lower back of the SOLO

i experimented with blocking this rearvent and found that temps increased significantly inside the case. especially in the right upper corner, where memory usually resides. there temps went up over 5 degrees celsius after blocking that rearvent. That's much more than I expected... I don't see how t...

Re: The grill at the lower back of the SOLO

I'm 'window shopping' and wondering how many of you blocked the vent next to the expansion slots of the SOLO? If you did, did your temps increased significantly? If you didn't, how much dust do you find inside the case thanks to this grill? I find it funny when cases come with front dust filters in...

Re: Four 92mm fans reviewed with equal airflows (CFM)

at 3 volt the 120mm still runs at about 550rpm, while max rpm is about 1450rpm. do you know why that is? Not only do I not know why, but I don't know how you know it's 550RPM at 3V. The computer usually stops reading RPM somewhere in the 6-7.5V range. Do you also have a tachometer? That works, of c...

This dropped the Maxtor idle temp from 41C down to 28C. When the CPU is maxed out, the drive temp drops to about 26C because of the increased fan speed. No more HD temp problems. I think this same technique could be used with two HDs, with the drives at 90 degrees to the duct, and the airflow blowi...

i would go for 2 120mm or 2 140mm fans in the bottom.

Cutting the Front grill? The Front dust filter: to be or not to be, that is the question?> The rear 120 Steel perforated grill?> in theory cutting the grills and leaving the filter out will give the opportunity to use the fans with a little less rpm and thereby a little less noise. i did not any of...

There is always geothermal -- MIT has recently developed a way to drill 7-8 mile deep wells (using a flame as the cutting torch, rather than a mechanical one). a 40mm fan directly on the heatsink of the nb would work great. you might also consider a big fan hanging from a zalman bracket over the pci-area of the motherboard blowing air towards it. that worked for me.
