I apologize in advance for bumping my own question, but I am still very curious: is there any benefit (noise-wise or cooling-wise) to be had from using a 15mm thick fan as opposed to a 25mm model?

I understand both fit equally well, I'm just interested in which one would yield the best results.

Does anyone have an idea whether it would be better to swap in a thinner fan? I think the stock fan of the VF700 is a 80x80x15mm fan whereas most swaps I've seen have been done with a 25mm thick fan. I'm not really sure what the benefit of such a thin fan might be, other than losing only 1 slot on y...

Taking out the dust cover at the front would help a little eh? Not what I meant: I would uncover a few of the lower 5.25" bays and leave the door open By which I mean a few drivebay covers. That way the upper section gets its own supply of fresh air, allowing you to see if that has any effect. I wa...

Yeah, the Ninja in a PC-V on that board might be a tight fit, even though it looks like it might fit. The Ninja extends roughly 1-1.5cm outside the retention bracket, so if I had to guess I'd say it would fit, but that's just guesstimating. I think the main problem with the V1100 is it's limited air...

A couple of questions in return: can you quantify "overheating"? What temperatures are we talking about? Which components are heating up? What happens: crash, freeze or just a bad feeling? Do you have a Phantom 350 or 500? What fans configuration do you have? Is there a "plus" version of the V1100 (...

Eventually you might want to suspend your harddisk in the area where the 3.5" drive cage was/is: in the 5.25" bays it's not going to get a whole lot of airflow so it might heat up more than you'd like. Do you use the blow hole in your case? I'm assuming you do since you use 4 80mm fans... have you e...

The Zalman 7000 comes with a FanMate (or FanMate 2), which is a small, in-line fan controller that allows you to set the fan voltage anywhere between 5 and 11V (I think I got that 5 right, could be a bit higher). So you can simply use the Fanmate to reduce the fan speed to your liking.

You can do a suspension of a single in the bottom removable harddisk cage with some sewing elastic. Or just leave out the cage and hang it from the fixed 3.5" drive bays. Another sound controlling measure for the LL PC-6x range is mass dampening with something like roofer's tape or vinyl tiles: the ...

I've found that obstruction on the "suck" side of a fan leads to much more turbulence noise than on the "blow" side; the placement could have a lot to do with the noise in other words. Drill out all the rivets holding stuff together that you may want to remove later (floppy drive cage, harddisk cage holder on the bottom) and replace the rivets with nuts-and-bolts. The Zalman is an older, ATX1.3 style PSU that is no longer considered a very good candidate for quiet setups or 12V-hungry modern CPUs anymore. Yes. For some not-so-obvious reason, the ground wire is often white for the case wiring. The polarity doesn't matter for the power and reset switches though, only for the lights and the speaker (although even that last one is debatable).
