Gigabyte's GTX260 S.O. got very favorable marks for its noise and temperatures versus stock 260s despite it being a factory overclocked card. At load, the GTX 260 Super Overclock comes in under everything else on this chart by at least 3dB. This is where Gigabyte’s binning and tuning become appar...

If so, you might consider an mATX X58 board with i7-920 CPU. Also, the Arctic Cooling S1 heatsink is said to do a fine job on an HD 5850. i7's are 125W CPU's compared to 95W i5's. So, they need significantly more cooling. I would bet that no cooler with a 96mm fan would be able to satisfactorily co...

I'm guessing the review would have been a rave if Stone had waited to ship an i7-860. Yes P55 and i7-860 would have been a better choice, but profits can't wait forever. If they just had to get something to market this summer, I would have chose something along the lines of Intel Xeon E5520 Nehalem...

Antec 3480 immediately came to mind with a little help from a dremel and some rubber U-channel. Plus, I would never trust a piece of molded plastic when carrying expensive hardware around. That is an accident waiting to happen.

The Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 got very good marks from Anandtech. Do you really need CrossfireX? If so, you might consider an mATX X58 board with i7-920 CPU. Also, the Arctic Cooling S1 heatsink is said to do a fine job on an HD 5850.

I wish I grossed $1000 on every PC I sold!

Looks like a better than average off the shelf system. The X58 chipset and i7 920 processor really bit them in the rear as far as heat and power draw.

So, 1008Gflops for the 5750 vs. 960Gflops for the 4770 doesn't bode well for my hopes of 4770 performance from the Radeon HD 5670. Also, with the 5750 drawing 86W at load makes me wonder if ATI is going to spec a power connector for the 5670 even if it comes in under 75W at load. The 4770 has a max ...

I'd agree with Meato. I look forward to 56x0 series - if they manage to get rid of power adapter and also lower idle power draw, well lower than 4670 that is. Heck yeah. Waiting for the 5670--in my perfect world it won't require external power, idle at 10W, and have the power of a 4870. 8) That is ...

I built my son a system in a Microfly, which is typical of the shoebox style cases. They are a nightmare to assemble compared to a mid-tower. The temperatures are much harder to keep reasonable. They actually take up more desktop real estate than a traditional mid-tower unless you are going to stack...

Looks like a junk cooler, 6-pin power adapter, and extremely limited supply at launch, on which I'd wager my next paycheck. I'm passing on this round of card launches as well. I had money set aside after the Radeon 4770 reviews. Then ATI partners produced those stripped down PCBs with crummy heatsin...

Powerful video cards are definitely the hardest problem for currently quietening computers, with the very hot VRMs that are difficult to cool and the coil whine issues as well. This Scythe looks like a nice product with potential, as long as better than supplied VRM cooling is used with high end ca...

I'd sure buy an Asrock before I bought an ECS board. The ECS is cheap for a reason and you get what you pay for.

You would be extremely hard pressed spend your money better than the component choices you've made. Quiet CPU heatsink and case fans and you're good to go.

Nice job. I especially liked the homemade spring to eject discs. Only revisions I'd make is a dust filter over the 120mm fan, and re-make the front face with a piece of laminate that better matches the other components in your media rack. edit: Formica Product - 4254 Brushed Black Aluminum http://ww...

Measure the distance between the mounting holes for the cooler, center to center. Find the mid-point. Measure from the mid-point to the PSU. Multiply that distance by two and you get the maximum dimension for your heatsink in that direction, or quite close to it. http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/7...

Found a diamond in the rough on the Xoxide site. Cooljag Falcon-2 - It appears to be a clone of the Nexus LOW-7000 , if not simply a re-branding. Since you are going to keep the awards, I'd like to offer a couple suggestions. 1. Include silentpcreview .com in the graphic in an easily read font 2. Update the blue 4-letter logo. It just looks dated and unimpressive. 3. Gold border for EC? Silver border for R? You can get this done cheaply by ho...
