Benchmarking

Any good resources online to figure out just what kind of point totals I should be hitting? In the last 2 weeks, of the 7 Computers I had running, I lost a Mac G4-1.25GHz, but replaced a Celeron 2.66 with a P4 3.06, and my points per week have almost doubled from 1800 to 3400. Just a fluke? Now I feel dirty. :(

Hey, every little bit counts. The 2 P3-800 machines are lucky to make 100 points per week. The Athlon spits out 48 or so per day.

Give me 12 hours, I'll get another 1200-1500 pts, and back up to 2000PPW.

I have to say - we're doing damn good for such a small team (# of users)

Well, maybe I jumped at the right time.

Newegg's price jumed from 199 to 215 yesterday, and Tigerdirect now lists the P4 3.06 Northwood as it's #1 seller, though the price hasn't changed yet from $199US or $269CDN

I did check NCIX, but this proc wasn't a stock item.

yes indeed. Northwood is dead. Intel makes more money selling presshots. Its going to be socket 775 only very soon as well. Tigerdirect haha. ;) I've never had a problem with Tigerdirect.ca Their prices seem to be competitive. If I could have, I would've ordered from Newegg and had it delivered to ...

No More Northwood?

After all I've been reading about the desire to stay away from Presc HOT t's, my search for a new CPU has focused on the Northwood proc. I decided to keep things clean with my current mobo and memory I'd stick with the P4 3.06GHz with 533 front side bus. I ended up buying retail from tigerdirect.ca ...

Look at the processors that they're testing with at Tom's as well - 3.4-3.6GHz, have to assume they're prescotts, while spcr is using northwoods rated almost a fill GHz lower. NO wonder that they're getting skewed results. I guess if you're trying to put together a high-GHz gaming machine, then the ...

you could always clock down the FAH cpu utilization to 70% or so, see if the temps decrease a bit... sure the WU will take a bit longer, but at least you won't lose them

I've hard wired my (stock) rear exhaust at 5V, which exhausts most of the heat. The PSU (Enermax noisetaker 365) runs a lowly 700rpm, and rarely ramps up from the heat. I was checking airflow the other day, by covering up the 'Antec' logos on the sides, and my case temp jumped 5 degrees, PSU ramped ...

Worse than the quality of the power coming in through your mains, the hum is likely more a result of EMI from surrounding equipment. Whenever I put my cell phone or blackberry next to my speakers I get audibles. If you can't eliminate the EMI, you may want to try a shielded cable between your PC and...
