http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/5282/2hd501ljoe2.th.jpg I ran a few benchmarks on two HD501LJ, compared to two HD401LJ (some results use 2-drives RAID 0) : http://idlenoise.ifrance.com/HD501LJ/ (AAM was enabled on both HD401LJ but disabled on both HD501LJ drives). I'll try to make some idle/AAMs...

Excuse me, off topic question! Alfred! How does your HD401LJ compare to the WD3200KS, concerning resonance, idle and AAM enabled seek noise? My WD3200KS was a disappointment; I bought it after having read the WD5000KS review but it prooved clearly louder in both idle and seek aspects than the 2 HD4...

Considering there were 2 unrelated assembling errors on these enclosures, I guess it was the "work" of an isolated employee who clearly wanted to create problems. What sounds strange to me is that I'd think Nexus should have known this since several months, but then how can we understand their email...

legion, I'm afraid the Silentmaxx enclosure you're linking to, isn't a drive drawer, it can be fixed as a 5"1/4 device or (better) you remove the external screws and put it on some deep foam somewhere in your PC. See this topic for more informations about this enclosure. I've had a few experiences w...

Hello,
I don't exactly know what's the problem with your floppy, anyway -- you can boot from the (free) Ultimate Boot CD and start Hitachi's F-Tool from there.

Faulty Drive-a-Way Nexus enclosures and Nexus support
Back in February 2006 I ordered three Nexus Drive-a-Way enclosures along with some other Nexus stuff on their online shop. A few days later, when preparing my drives inside the enclosures I discovered that two out of the three enclosures had the front and back plates switched (front was mounted at t...

Looks to me like you got an exceptionally good chip. Although I don't know what "standard voltage" is at 3400 MHz on a DQ6, do you? Nice that the Ninja and the Crazy Cool are compatible. Nominal CPU voltage for the Conroe E6700 is 1.34Volt; using Gigabyte's EasyTune5 utility mine displays 1.35Volt....

Nice setup, I don't have enough time right now to read the article in detail but I soon will in order to see if I can improve something on the last system I built (10 days ago), using a Conroe E6700 @ 3400 MHz; single Nexus 120mm fan @ 5~7 Volts. http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?p=2898...

It seems to be identical to the Silentmaxx HD Silencer Rev.2.0 (save for the blue-versus-black color and company's logo). I'm using one Silentmaxx and one Scythe Quiet Enclosure right now in my main PC (2x Samsung HD401LJ RAID-0 setup) with both enclosures laying on foam and the tower has been dampe...

delta dB (unweighted) @ 1m, free air, HDD over foam, exceptionally quiet 3:00am environment, Samsung HD401LJ #2 (firmware ZZ100-15) versus Samsung HD401LJ #1 (firmware ZZ100-14) : idle noise -0.26dB; AAM seek +0.97dB; noAAM seek +1.60dB. #2 vibrates a little more than #1; I'd rate both drives as ave...

Thanks winguy, I'll be testing this HD160HJ as soon as I can get one  Received my 2nd T133 HD401LJ today. I'm going to compare idle & seek noises in the same (quiet) environment, I first need to backup and low-level-format the #1; hope the new baby will prove as good as the first one. Both dri...

I somehow managed to add two WD drives right below the floppy drive without any kind of airflow (don't remem...

Considering the user reports we've got at this point (added to the drive reviewed by SPCR), it seems the T133 suffers from a wide sample variance on vibration, from really good to really poor... I'll have a second HD401LJ in a few days; I hope it will be as good as the first one. Does someone know i...

Just my 2 cents -- why not trying to speed up everything and not only boot & task-switching times? Depending on which CPU you're currently running, a good option would be an upgrade to a Conroe. They're quite cheap, and a E6600 or E6700 can be overclocked to a great extent without getting as hot as ...

I think you're right pixel_pimp; setting up several userfiles partitions tends to lower the fragmenting process rate. The only reason I'm not doing it this way is that I often found myself needing 20 GB more on E:, 30 GB less on F: and so on  Obviously it's easy to resize partitions but in ord...

Nice :) Probably one of the most useful utilities you'll ever see. Here is the way I use it : each computer uses only one HDD; first partition for boot, windows, programs (20~40 GB allowing enough free space for some software creating huge temp files when working, for example video coders); second p...

ok, so maybe the Maxtor is still healthy; if the UBCD utilities don't find any problem, what I would try is to full- (not quick-) format the hard disk, followed by a clean Windows install. You can do the full-format in the beginning of the WinXP setup procedure when booting from the install CD-ROM. ...

16x dvd spinning will always be noisy. Ripping/copying cds/dvds on hard disks in a file server in the garage (using double-gigabit ethernet LAN) is basically what I'm doing too  Also I use an external USB 2.0 LG drive cause I don't want a 5"1/4 device sending vibrations through the entire case...

Hi,
After finishing all backups you may want to test this Maxtor with some free, powerful, low-level utilities from Ultimate Boot CD; if the drive is faulty then it will give ample proof for the store.
Do you know if the Maxtor overheated ? or had unusual sounds ?

Wow... Never saw that  And it means that sometimes, WD actually doesn't copy-paste dB specs from one drive to another ! 'How shocking' lol Anyway -- I still find several crazy numbers in this table. For example I've got a T7K250 to give for free as I just can't stand its idle noise signature....
