Re: Mounting a CPU heatsink without the backplate

It is pretty obvious that in order to use a big cooler you'll need a big case nad a big enough Mobo. This is like you won't fit a V8 Hemi in a Smart 2 seater's motor compartment. To play this one save, i'd suggest sticking to NoFan recommendations for compatible hardware, so you might check out thei...

Re: Need PSU/Cooler/Case choose for quiet build

The EVGA data sheet claims 42A for the PSU when using with a Core i7 CPU.

Turn to Google and find some reviews for actual power draw.

You are free to follow EVGA and buy any 1300W PSU you like.

What if Windows screws up? What if a windowsupdate-of-death lurks around? Personally i am no friend of any of those software dependend cooling solutions, because one thing i have learned in the last 15 years of working in IT: If you rely on a software, chances of failure are high. Re: I have a lot of problems with my monitor. Need suggestio

Hard to tell. From your description, i'd guess the monitor doesn't recognize the signal from the DVI port. Only way to rule out different things would be cross testing: -different DVI cable -different PC (before connecting, switch different PC a low resolution) -different monitor -different signal i...

I've had a lot of good experiences with SPCR. But the signal to noise ratio isn't high enough for me any more. I'd prefer Lodestars solution, but you could just see to it, that you raise the case by mounting different stands, replacing the rather flat original rubber ones. Combining both doesn't hurt either.

The W1 has a top which could host 2 fans, but for cat's sake you could just seal them from the inside. The top is said to have a dust filter according to the linked review.

Fan noise of the 6670 in your link will be noticeable.

But you could disable the stock fan, buy a 80mm fan, set it @5V and fasten it to the card somehow (cable ties?).

Re: Please help: SFF video editing PC as silent as possible

There is a considerable venting but not active cooling: I would assume that the temperature won't exceed room's temperature by more than 5 degrees, that means PC air temp is 30 °C in the worst case. Depending on how the venting plays out in reality, you construct a hotbox. Since the ISK moves pract...

In addition to posting your specs, you should tell us if or what other case fans you are using.

Do you use all front HDD cages or just the bottom one? Have you removed the other HDD cage?

Judging from the pictures on the homepage it looks pretty restricted on the intake. R4 has a bottom intake and uses the whole length of the front for side vents.

My guess is: No, won't match R4, probably not even close.

Again as we expected, the write speeds weren’t so fantastic. In AS SSD a sequential write speed of just 75MB/sec is well below that of a decent 3.5in hard disk, and 80MB/sec speed in ATTO disc benchmark corroborates this. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2010/07/21/crucial-realssd-c300-64gb...

As to the Asus led problem: Use some macgyver duct tape and cover this led.

No need to disconnect the led and risk losing warranty. Just cover it up. Mainboard-makeup

Thr R4 does have a built-in fan controller, you could use that for the case fans and let them run @fixed voltage.

Mostly correct: but that's why back up exists, isn't it? You could use the old PSU and get Molex to SATA adaptors. Smells can not only come from the paint but comes mostly from the glue, plastic materials and the board inside, so chances are high that a cheap PSU will be made of cheap (and smelly) materials. General problem with smell is nearly the same a...

Re: Why are people talking about 120mm fans still? curious

If your case can make use of 140mm fans, then you should use them. Simply because they can move more air at lower rpm. But if you find out that your computer runs quiet enough while using 120mm fans and the temps are good, then i wouldn't change the fans. Simply because there is no need. Most CPU co...

You can't compare a 7750 to a 750TI because the 750TI renders three times faster. Games that will run on the Nvidia would shurely have to be drilled down to get similar frame rates on a 7750. Point is: Low profile cooler have a hard time coping with load temps, will need fast spinning tiny fans. The...

i second the thoughts of push/pull being nonsense for silent computing. The trick was not to pick a case with intake restrictions in order to allow free air flow and just use some exhaust fan. As to the OP, i guess you should ditch the 440 and get some case that isn't suffocating on the intake. Just...

Re: Using old Asus ATX mobo LGA775 for NAS?

In spite of baytrail, you will have a hard time beating a 2-bay QNAP or Synologie prebuild NAS in power consumption.

If you are happy with the supplied functions, a prebuild NAS should rule the power charts.
