Re: is nofan best fanless cooler?
i did have a matrox card remember those that had artifacting problems like you describe. my thinking is just to use the gpu on the cpu on intel or amd. i had a gigabye ud but either it or core2 duo died, i had it undervolted. not sure if undervolting can damage the cpu. nofan claims its fanless mean...

Re: is nofan best fanless cooler?
so in say an atx case how does the heat pipe which is rigid and fixed, connect from cpu to the case in those brands u mention? thanks Well in most cases, the pipes are already design to work on a certain position, that fits the cpu socket and are connected to the case, thru some kinda mounting desi...

Asus also has the tuF naming mostly in the sabertooth mobos, thats suppose to be like the marketing from gigabyte and msi. Try to share your build and results. i don't know much about tuf's. i first got interested in it when i saw articles on msi hi-c tantalium capacties that last 30 years of heavy...

Re: is nofan best fanless cooler?
so what is your impression of nofan? Its a great expensive cooler, the best among passive, but not as good to sustain a 4770K under prime95. It maintains my Camera server (see signature) below 70C under daily load, the CPU varies all day depending on the cameras, it can hit 100% for brief periods, ...

Re: is nofan best fanless cooler?
i like the idea of building a passively cooled build, and given that i don't plan to play games, the idea of building a perfectly silent pc with fanless ssd power supply sounds enticing. It really depends on a lot of factors, i would probably go with a case design to be passive like HDDPLEX or STEA...

Re: is nofan best fanless cooler?
is nofan cr-95 the best fanless cpu cooler or has it been surpassed? There was a bigger cooler before the CR95, CR-100A , that was suppose to be better, but its too big and heavy, even the CR95 usually takes 2 PCIe slots, making it hard to place on small cases or tight setups. if compatibility with...

Re: are dual chamber atx cases better airflow
reviewer says vents must be facing up, not sideways or upside down Mike Chin (the reviewer) just reported there what Seasonic writes on that sticker (he didn't critically comment it). the other issue is whether nofan cr95 will fit inside the case I don't own that case, but at the moment I don't see...

Re: are dual chamber atx cases better airflow
so those are my concerns I guess the Corsair case is probably too restrictive to run the NoFan without case airflow (check the NoFan/InWin cases for comparison), and you might want to remove the dust filters as well. The Seasonic PSU can be run in any orientation. BTW, IMO you've just to try. the f...

are dual chamber atx cases better airflow[?]
i've been mulling over my next possible build, and i'm attracted to the idea of a dual chamber atx case on the theory of isolating the powersupply in adjacent chamber is a good idea. ultimate for an atx full desktop but fanless, using no-fan or something similar cooler, for 100% fanless ssd silent p...

i'm asking as i have no experience but how quiet are water pumps in closed-loop sealed $100 newegg water kits. what i am wondering is if this makes sense buy a 65 tdp skylake cpu then cool it with a standard sealed kit from newegg many to choose from not use the fans to cool radiator but use the pum...

google offers android based on linux. but what if google bought BeOS, and also BeIA, instead of Palm, then open sourced it then offered it free to phone manufacturoers. remember BeIA? could a BEOS/BEIA based android be a success? would beos work better than linux both as an open source desktop os an...

80s nostalgia - c64 or tandy cco3 or apple iic
im feeling a bit of 80s nostalgia. when i was a very young kid i knew one kid who had a c64 and loved it. i wanted this toy. my elementary school had 1 apple iic on a tiny 9 inch green monitor. i went to radio shack and they had a coco3. now i know that these are 3 different machines. which is bette...

Re: should intel go big core.little core like arm?
I was referring to AMD's “heterogeneous Uniform Memory Access” Ah ok. It's mostly marketing. Yes, in theory it's a great idea. Let CPU programs and GPU programs access the same memory without needless copying, basically making the "APU" concept that AMD has been pushing. The reality: 1. There are s...

Re: should intel go big core.little core like arm?
yeah i wonder about that with amd. is their idea of unified pointers a good idea and should intel adopt it? I will be completely honest and say I have no idea what you are talking about when you say "unified pointers". so if one person has a 6 core haswell 95 tdp, and another person has say an atom...

Re: should intel go big core.little core like arm?
i guess AMD purchase of ATI was a mistake? That depends on whether or not it was the financial and logistical burden of merging the two companies that made Bulldozer be the failure it was. Right now, AMD is only alive because of ATI. If they had no GPUs to sell, they'd be finished. if they only foc...

Re: should intel go big core.little core like arm?
by warning i mean intel is a better choice for me than amd. While in most cases today that is a true statement, that wasn't the point I was trying to make. how does amd gpu compare with nvidia? They compare quite well. At this very moment Nvidia has a slight edge, but ATI/AMD has been on top many t...

Re: would you buy LED cpu cooler?
Well I don't like lighting on computers of any form. I disconnect power and hard disk LEDs if I find them too bright. I would never buy a cooler with LEDs and I'm pretty certain most of the people on SPCR forums would not either. That is all I have to say on the topic but if you 'luv star wars ligh...

Re: should intel go big core.little core like arm?
thanks for the warning! Not sure how it was a warning. At the time there wasn't anything else that performed better that wasn't either much more expensive (the i5) or much bulkier (my two laptops are 12.5"). My statement was more of a "you get what you pay for" and that Atoms/Bobcats are slow. In n...

Re: would you buy LED cpu cooler?
No no no and again no. LEDs, CCFLs and acrylic cases that you have asked about recently are not highly thought of on SPCR. Anything that produces light means that power is used and that power equates to an amount of waste heat inside the case which would then require more cooling for a given temper...

SSD on a pci-e 16x slot
would it make sense in a cost and performance to have SSD on a 16x pci-e slot?
does SSD saturate the 1x bandwidth?
more bandwidth than SATA and pci-e 1x. not sure about latency.
some users may prefer a gpu on one 16x slot and a 512Gb SSD on a 16x pci-e slot.
could it be done affordablely?
