Re: Noctua NH-D15 or Noctua NH-D14?

At single fan configuration the NH-U14S is even better: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1395-page6.html . It's lighter and less expensive too.

Thanks for the detailed reviews. I like the temperature and cable comparisons too. These are relevant to my decision on my next purchase.

Re: Isolated PSU in Fractal Define C

If that's a rebadge of Seasonic G450W, then that's the one I'm using. I can't hear it at all, but mind you it's in the corner of next of my room and since most cases nowadays have PSUs mounted at the bottom with the fan facing down, there's no chance of hearing it if it's on the floor.

Re: Big vs Smaller Cooler for i5-6500

Based on SPCR's reviews I would've gone with Kotetsu without hesitation, but it's not available at the place I ordered my parts online. Price, weight, noise and temperature performance it beats all other heatsinks reviewed on this website in my opinion, at least in terms of efficiency.

Re: Big vs Smaller Cooler for i5-6500

My first custom PC is also with the i5-6500 and I use the NH-U14S, which is really overkill for non-gaming and integrated GPU as well. I'm sure if you're going with Noctua that the U12S would be still be great. Of your Noctua choices, I'd go with NH-U12S. I also think motherboard VRM cooling is not ...

Re: Wanting to build a powerful yet quiet gaming PC

I'm unsure if mounting SSDs directly behind the motherboard and CPU area is a good idea for temperatures, but judging by photos it is indeed cramped for PSU cables with the front drive cage. I've contacted Fractal Design about the Define C and the Mini to confirm it's possible to push the cage back ...

Too bad it's only 1000 DPI, which can be slow for larger screen resolutions. OOTH this is typical of office mice.

Try and find an H170 board with M.2 that doesn't have DDR3 or something else wrong with it. You're pretty much stuck with Z170 if you want M.2 I beg to differ: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H170M-PLUS/specifications/ This has both M.2 and DDR4 (mind you it has a limit frequency of 2133Mhz) I'm ...

If the new edition's Silencio FP fan is the same as the ones in the Silencio 652S case , then hopefully it runs at 500 or lower RPM, otherwise the acoustics is terrible. Edit: Judging by their website's image the starting RPM is 600, same as the original, but this time up to around 60% of 550W (at 3...

Are we not cooling hard drives any longer? In this age of very very fast solid state drives, there is no reason to use high RPM hot running hard drives in a "silent" PC. WD Reds run cool enough that unless they are burried, they are fine. What about this study that show SSD failures due to high tem...

- smaller die have poorer C/W. - once you reduce the die to a certain size while retaining the wattage, Solder based TIM interface will cause physical stress fractures on the die with the repeated hot/cold cycles. That's why Intel went to a paste style TIM which has a poorer C/W than the solder sty...

I'd take the Kotetsu because it's still the most efficient considering its lower price, size, weight, better stock fan acoustics, and is 2nd place only by 1dBA.

some modern motherboars can control 3-pin non-PWM fans connected to 4-pin PWM headers. Read the z97 pro review - http://www.silentpcreview.com/ASUS_Z97-PRO The motherboard knows what type of fan is connected to each header. As you see on page 3 of the review, one can chose PWM or DC mode. Does this...

I would loved to have seen a direct A-B comparison of this case vs the R5 Gaming build to find out if/how much the changes benefitted thermal/noise performance. Set aside it's difficult to me to agree with THG on anything, btw, with reference to TPU findings all those quiet cards (but the Palit) should be very close if not identical noise-wise, and with reference to THG's VRM temps it wouldn't seem ASUS is actually worse than competition. I have two concerns with the Asus according to Tom's Hardware:
1) Power consumption spikes
2) Hidden VRM temps of 95°C

Otherwise it may be the most quiet of the brands they reviewed.

I'm not happy with any of the cooling results, the results from other reviews are pretty bad, making Carbide 330R still superior while offering the same or better level of noise reduction.
