Does anyone know a source? Can't find one so far. Having just paid over $50 in brokerage fees and taxes to UP-ripoff-S to bring a Silenx PSU up from the US, I don't want to go through that again!
Thanks in advance....

The new Maxtor Diamondmax Pro 9 SATAs have been reviewed elsewhere, and these use a fluid bearing system that the reviewers claim is quiet, but who knows.... They sure are fast; I am hoping they will suffice noise-wise - I'd like to Raid-0 a pair through the ICH5(R) Southbridge on a 875 motherboard ...

Very interesting - given the noise concerns with the high-end video cards these days you would think manufacturers would be a lot more circumspect about using cheap thermal goop. Anyone know what is used with a 9800 Pro? Or what type of thermal interface is shipped with the Zalman passive video cool...

I just ordered a Silenx a few days ago, and was told that UPS cometimes collects the GST and a nice fat brokerage fee and sometimes does not - seems to be luck of the draw... P's suggestion only makes sense if you live right near the border and can drive to the States in an hour or so. Even then you...

Re the Lian-LI 6070 and other cases using internal noise insulation: Whether all that heat-trapping insulation is worth it is a big question - without it you could probably run your fans more slowly and achieve roughly the same low-noise footprint at the same temps. Extending that 6070 review, two c...

Storagereview recently reviewed these drives. There are three platter densities currently in use : 60, 68, and 80 Gig. They vary quite a bit in noise - see the review - but you can't discern which you'd be getting from the model # - it only tells you the capacity and whether you get a 8M cache. Nast...

Slightly OT: CD burning
Can anyone tell me whether if you wish to back up a CD that uses some copy protection scheme (eg Safedisk) you must have 2 CD-RW burners that are capable of reading and writing the protected disk, or can you just copy a CD disk physical/bit image to your hard drive with 1 CD-RW and then burn the new...

You could email/phone and ask - I found them very helpful when I ordered. One peeve I do have with their service (this holds for many other online outlets) is that they do not automatically provide receipts, just invoices that do not indicate the item has even been paid for, let alone by whom. When ...

crg, I don't plan to do anything with the old Dell - will be keeping it as a backup system and occasional game server. It's an XBR1000r 1G PIII with a black heat duct for the CPU fan and no other case fan. While Dell told me I could not substitute a different PSU into this box, QuietPC.com does sell...

The raves about the low noise levels of the Silenx PSUs in this forum led me to ask ExoticPC for further specs to supplement the very limited info on their 400W unit found on their Web site. Just a note of appreciation for the willingness of WATYF and digitalix to take the time to share their experiences - very informative. See the new "Interesting Silenx info" post for newer specs on the 400W unit.

Calculating loads for a quiet PSU: a common mistake?
I'm sure around here someone will immediately correct me if I am wrong on this.... I'm not an engineer or tech, but from what I have inferred from Tomshardware's recently posted data on CPU wattages in their CPU scaling article together with their recent PSU review, it's a big mistake to simp...

might as well hop on the bandwagon: ...i haven't had any problems yet, it's dead silent as well, can i ask for more? i'd say 400w would only be needed for high end raid setups or dual processors... Looking at your setup (which is very close to what I am planning), and working from Tomshardware figu...

I did an "ultra ghetto" mod in my Lian Li case by stretching a bungee cord twice around the HDD bay assembly horizontally.
