The change in idle temps indicates that something in your system changed. Did you change the speed setting on the CPU fan? Did you change you case fans or thier speeds? It sounds to me that the CPU cooler shifted and does not have good contact with the CPU. What happened if you open your case so tha...

Looks like a serious attempt to build a fully integrated quite PC case. The built in HDD case and suspension if it was done correctly looks like it could be a real winner but there is only one of these. It also looks like it will have very good HDD cooling. If someone gets one of these please let us...

Fanless high amperage single voltage DC power supplies are available with more than enough power to handle a PC. These units have been in production for decades and are large and some what costly. The limitation is that the DC to DC converters (to convert 12V DC into 5V and 3.3V DC) that are availab...

Keep in mind that the 90nm parts have about a 40% smaller die. Therefore to keep the temps the same the amount of heat produced will have to be less. Give the much smaller die a 5C temp increase is very small and I would have expected much higher temps if the power consuption was the same. Given thi...

If you create the same amount of heat in a smaller area it will be hotter. So this does not nessarily indicate that the 90nm parts have higher leakage levels. Since AMD has been kicking Intels back side with the 130nm parts they could take the time to make sure that they had it right. Other sources ...

In addition to the whine many (most) hard drives vibrate at lower freqs. For 7200 RPM drives this is typicaly around 129 HZ. When I had my drives suspended on rubber gromits I noticed a low pitched hum that I had a hard time locating becuse it seemed to come from every where in the PC. I used a mic ...

I have read that the A64s will work very well with slower memory. Can't remeber where I read this but they specificaly said to use your PC2700 memory unless you just felt like spending your money. The difference at most will be 1% to 2% on most apps. Speed wise it should be about 60% faster than you...

Typical PC consumes 85 to 150 watts. So do the math (24 x 85)/1000 and (24 X 150)/1000 will give the per day KW useage for an 85 watt and a 150 watt PC. So between 2.04 and 3.6 KW per day. So depending on what your electrical rates are that would be $0.16 to $0.60 per day. My PC consumes 204 watts i...

I have considered this same basic idea and I have not found any drawbacks yet. Other than the complexity of the design and contruction. Yes I see what you are getting at. The DC to DC unit is the weak link. I think it will work if all of the components are carefully selected. So no high end graphics cards, a mobil processor and one HDD looks like it would work but not much more. This could still be a fairly powerful system but not a...

If you do a 0 + 1 set up you need 4 drives. Another alternative is to use a Netcell Raidsync controller with 3 drives using it's XL mode (raid 3) to get the same speed, redondancy and capacity with less noise and cost than a 4 drive raid 0 + 1 setup. Unlike the mother board "raid controllers" this i...

Was the problem with the DC to DC supply or with the brick that was being used? "The 200w rating is a little high." Are you saying that the specs for the DC to DC unit are not correct? Not sure where to put this. This site has systems that have a fanless PSU and use heat pipes for CPU and GPU as well as a hard drive enclosure in both prebuilt and kit versions. The kit includes the case, PSU, heat pipes and HD enclosure. Check it out. http://www.deltatronic.de/int/test_reports.html...

Has anyone seen this?
Only available in 230V as far as I can tell. One of sites I looked (translated) said something about the inside being filled with some kind of heat transfer substance. So they could not open it up to look at the insides. They also commented on how heavy it is.
