Neil, I thought this was a global warming debate. I, and many others on this thread are debating your rude comments about naysayers being anti science wackos, with science, thus proving you wrong. Meanwhile, you continue to talk about how crazy creationism is. I would almost go as far as to say that...

I never suggested use of full hybrid drive trains either. @edh Actually, you didn't really say much of anything. You only have one short post before this one. I am commenting on the widely accepted "solutions" to AGW. Not on your solutions which are actually very valid alternatives. These solutions...

The actual result of the global shading was studied by checking the weather at LAX in September 11-15 2001. When all air traffic was banned for a couple of days the temperature rose 3-5 degrees above what was expected for the given weather. You can't prove a claim with a single data point under unc...

Er on the side of caution? Really? What happens when your "solutions" cause more harm than good? Ethanol is one of the worst offenders. Global demand of corn and sugar skyrocketed and caused global food shortages that likely killed hundreds of thousands. And what do we do with all those hybrid batte...

Do you believe that consensus proves AGW? There was a consensus that witches were rampant in Salem. There was a consensus that the earth was flat. I was a scientist at Lockheed Martin. I worked on space research and robotics. I know and trust science. I do not believe in God. I also know the science...

try an arctic cooling alpine 7. Cheap and silent at low RPMs. Not the best cooler for high end cpus, but plenty capable for 45W cpus. I use them up to 65W CPUs and they stay quiet with decent bios fan control. They can often be found for $10-15

The temps look fine. I don't love running into the 60s but that is because my athlons tend to have a lower rated temp. If you are still worried about it, you could try to undervolt the CPU. That would remove some of the heat load on it. Or, you can build a small duct for better CPU cooling. But you ...

What are the temps you are concerned about? The 4850 reads the die temperature. Die temperatures appear higher than CPU temperatures because CPU temperatures are monitored differently. They are monitored with a "package" temperature. This method is left over from temp readings for CPUs from off die ...

What front end do you want to use? If you are using Windows Media Center then the xbox 360 is a great option. But I think VMC sucks because it is not a real client / extender product. Have you tried undervolting yet? It just seems like you could get near the 85W of the new 6000+ with a simple undervolt. If it will take it. Undervolting is free. Also, are you really using your computer at high load that much that the 125W TDP matters that much? Do you leave the PC on all the time?...

Have you tried undervolting the processor? You can save a lot of power at idle and load. Another option is to get a second computer for basic work that is very low power. I do this because it saves me $ in the long run. I don't game as much as I work so a gaming machine for browsing the internet and...

What front end are you guys planning on using with this little box? Boxee and XBMC don't support DxVA acceleration. I tend to really like the looks of TT designs and this one is no exception. It definitely has potential. I would eagerly anticipate another go at this design that matches the fin area of the other top heatsinks. They could easily make the fins a bit wider.

Considering they are nearly as fast as an Atom processor they aren't really that slow as regular PCs. The biggest issue is genearlly ram. I would make sure you have at least 512MB of ram for each. 700+ is preferable.

If you are really concerned with idle power consumption and just game once in awhile I would stick to the 4670 with its 3W idle power consumption. Amazing.

None so far have a docking station available. You can do what I do and get yourself a USB hub and a second power supply. That makes it three connections and it can be very fast to hook up if you have them organized.

You probably have the SATA drives in legacy IDE mode. You need to turn on AHCI mode in the bios. The trouble is that once you do, WinXP won't boot again. Pretty much the only way to get AHCI working is to reinstall windows. Make sure you are in AHCI mode and you have a disk made for the SATA drivers...

With 2 ATI 4870 X2 video cards and an overclocked Quad Core you can reach 700W at the wall. That is basically 4 4870 video cards and 4 CPUs in one system. You won't overclock a system for your purpose, and you shouldn't run SLI or Crossfire so you are more than fine on a 500W PSU. I run the Corsair ...
