There are 479 pins, to prevent you from insearting a PM in a 478 board. Since P4 and PM is electrical compatible, PM does not need an extra pin. But since the pin out is somewhat different, Intel don't want n00bs to return fried PM's because they tried it in a 478.

I have a IC7-M3. I also got tired of the whiney NB fan. I got the zalman NB cooler and glued the thing to the NB with artic thermal epoxy. Never to be removed again. At that time I was looking into overclocking the thing som I placed a papst 40mm fan on top of it. I required that I cut down the fins...

Well, i just read that I can draw 500mA from the connectors, e.g. 6W. The fans draw 2.4W each at 12v. So it will be a close call. Question is, do they draw more, when run by PWM? Is the rating max, or during normal operation?

Max currentdraw from mobo fan connectors?

I know the inf is somewhere around, but I have tried searching to no avail. Anyhow I have two 120mm panaflo FBK-12G12LH in my system, undervolted to 5v. However I want to run them from the mobo fanconnectors as Speedfan then can take control of them. They do not have RPM minitoring, so I was thinkin...

Well, guess that was kind of a stupid post i wrote. I just found out that the P4-M and P4 is compatible, but the pin-out is different. So eventou a P4-M would work with P4 desktop chipset, it would need a different pin-out.

So much for my good idea.

P4 M socket 478

I'm building a new HTPC for running WMCE 2005 with the Ahanix D-Vine 5 case. As the thermal properties of HTPC cases in generel are very poor I am considering different paths. MCE5 requires a P4 2.4 to run smoothly and I already have a 2.6. So the question is, what P4-M (socket 478) do I need in ord...

Peteamer Well, it alwas the obvious you miss, because it is just too darn easy. Had I thought about it: both drives passing the SMART test, both drives seems to fail, I should have looked for something that influenced both drives. But I'll remeber the lesson. :) Laurent: Guess so. The SATA connector...

I feel so f...... stupid. Counting on it being a new machine and all, I didn't check the powercables. The 5v connector from the standart powerplug to the two SATA plugs could have been the problem. I have now replaced it, and is waiting to see if it freezes again. And my new drive have just arrived,...

SP1614C problems - how did your drive die?

I bought a new comp this spring with two SP1614C drives. It have been running almost 24/7 ever since without a glitch. When I came home the other day I couln't get it out of the pause-screen, so I rebooted it. It couldn't boot and stalled after "Verifying DMI Pool data" where the boot is done and th...

A P133 heatsink is fine for the 9600XT. I have done it, and there haven't been any problems so far. If pcislots is a concern try finding a heatsink for a P Pro for 1U servers. They are about 2 centimeters high, and therefore should only render one pci slot useless, I would think.

In reply to the first post in this tread: (btw I have just scanned the other posts, so if this have already been written I apologise) I assume that the kill-a-watt is measuring the powerdraw from 110V/230V line. If so, it gives no meaning to translate one watt on the 110v/230v side to one watt on th...

Cause I don't play any real graphic intensive games, until HL2 arrives. :D Anyhow if I have done it properly then I don´t expect there to be either, since the stock cooling solution is really crappy as you write. I can only second zoob. Did it with my old Radeon AIW, and it worked fine. Just be carefull not to apply to much pressure. As I recall it, you apply some pressure, and after a few seconds you can feel the glue giving in and the heatsink comes of.

Passively cooled 9600XT mod

So i finally got around to mod my vidcard. I exchanged the stock fan/heatsink on my Sapphire 9600XT 256 with an old heatsink from a P133. The P133 heatsink is from a ICL/Fujitsu system, where the cpu was passively cooled. I glued it on with arctic silver epoxy and left it for a couple of hours to cu...

The fan/heatsink on my Sapphire 9600XT looks rather flimsey. I have had it apart and it is only the walls of the fan that acts as heatsink.
