Wow, an 18C difference between the XP-120 and the Ninja. I knew that the Ninja was more suited for low airflow but that's a pretty big difference. I have a Globewin at 5v on my SI-120 and I'm wondering if I should ditch it for a Ninja. If the thunderous noise your GW NCB fan is making at 5V is caus...

Different fans have different RPM/voltage curves for reasons of design and implementation. For example, the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro fan falls off very fast in RPM as the voltage is lowered. This is not the sign of a bad fan; the test of a fan is how much noise it produces at a given CFM (degree ...

I picked up 5 of the Globewin fans today. They seem to be a little weird because they spin faster depending on orientation. When the fan is facing down it spins faster than facing up (or could be the other way around, don't remember). They are really slow at 5v, i'd say you can duplicate the Globewi...

FreeNAS is probably what you're looking for. Software RAID 5 is probably good enough for SOHO use.

After looking around online with no luck I ended up purchasing 3 of the Globewin fans. I'll just try using zip ties to hold down the fan on the Thermalright SI-120 and skipping the rubber mounts for now and see how it goes.

Are there any stores selling the Globalwin with at least the rubber fan mounts? I can do a local pickup for SVC for the Globalwins but I will have to pay $6 shipping on a $5 order at Jab-tech.

I can't decide if I should get the Globalwin or the Yate Loon. From the posts so far the Globalwin seems to be better but the store that has the Globalwin (SVC) doesn't seem to sell rubber mounts for fans and doesn't carry the replacement wire clips I need for my Thermalright SI-120 to work with clo...

Ok maybe I will just pass on the enclosure for now, it is kind of pricey at $35 + shipping. The raptor's idle noise is not bad at all just the seek noise can be a little annoying. Only when the ambient noise is really low like at night with the windows and doors shut though. So would you say the P18...

I have 3 other hard drives but they are rarely accessed and used more for just plain storage. If the enclosure will help with seek noise I think it will be worth it. I have the back exhaust fan (Tricool on low) with the top exhaust closed off with a heavy notebook on top. I didn't tape up the VGA du...

I have all my drives mounted on the lower chamber because of temperature concerns. I noticed without a fan my drives were idling around 50c in both the upper and lower chambers. After moving all the hard drives down to the lower area and setting the fan on low the raptor is about 41 C now. I'll try ...

How does the gel thing work? Can it only be used once and does it leave any residue on the drive? I've heard all these horror stories about the adhesive pads that come with the Ninja and how they would not come off the motherboard. Don't want something similar to happen  Does this mount fine ...

Any cheaper retail solutions to quiet the Raptor down?

I just purchased a Raptor 150 gb to replace my Seagate 160gb 7200.7 as my OS hard drive. The Raptor is great when it's idling but the seek noise is pretty bad. I don't mind it when I'm gaming but it happens sometimes during web browsing too. I've been looking at ways to quiet the seek noise and I've...

My 2 cents: 1) Modular PSUs are impractical, you tend to use up all the cables anyways, so what space/aesthetic advantage do they really provide? The only good reason to get a modular PSU is to mod the cables yourself (and impossible if it uses proprietary heads like the Neo series) for specifc len...

I bought a NeoHE 550 because it was on sale at Fry's for $89 and it's been running great. No issues at all with rebooting or stability with my Asrock 939 (Asus manufacturers these boards). I have a S0605xxxx sn.

Does anyone know if the NeoHE 430 is quieter than the 550?

Does the Antec Smartpower 2.0 500 Watt whine?

I picked up a 500 watt Antec Smart Power 2.0 from Fry's to replace my 450 Watt Cooler Master. The power supply's fan is pretty quiet and the exhaust never turns on in my P180 but there is a high pitched whine emitted from my computer now. I also added a Maxtor hard drive and I've been trying to pinp...

Zalman VF700CU fan sonic signature not smooth

I bought an Antec P180 from Amazon and it arrived today. After I transferred from my Sonata to my P180 and powered it up I noticed that my video card fan's sonic signature wasn't smooth anymore. I'm running the VF700 on a 7800GT at 5v. It didn't have this problem initially and it's been 3 months sin...

Antec Sonata seems pretty loud to me.

I picked up an Antec Sonata on black friday to replace my old lian li case. Problem is, it doesn't seem much better at all. The hard drivers are much quieter thanks to the rubber mounting but the overall sound levels seem higher. The case seems to buzz or resonate I think and the hard drive sounds s...

If you're happy with what you have, then stick with it. I personally have tested 80mm 92mm and 120mm Vantec Stealth fans prior to finding SPCR. The Vantec Stealth is very noisy in comparison to other fans recommended here... mostly because of bearing/motor noise. It makes a loud (by my standard) ti...

I have all my case fans and my CPU fan hooked up to a single molex running on 5v and I honestly can't hear a huge difference between all 6 fans on and off. I've been holding off replying to this thread because there isn't an audible difference between having all 5 fans on (at 5v) or off. I suspect it's the old heatsink I have on my Athlon 64 that's causing all the noise (70mm Thermaltake), so once I replace that with the SI-120 I have coming I'll post ...

Are the Vantec Stealth fans any good?

I have an older Lian Li case with 5 80mm Vantec Stealth fans running at 5V. I was wondering if it is worth replacing with Nexus or Panaflo 80mm ones. If the noise difference isn't too great I might just save the money on upgrading until I get a better case that uses 120mm fans.
