I can find it at 127 euros so it is not a really 1:1 - add taxes to the USA price and that's just it - no more no less.
FiringSquad review is useless: I wanted to know if power consumption has improved, how does compare the noise, if that special design ruins video quality, and so on.

a proper ATX PSU am I looking at the wrong item? these are not standard ATX (PS2), but FlexATX. "FlexATX is a PC motherboard form factor derived from ATX. The specification was released in 1999 by Intel as an addendum to the microATX". That's what wikipedia says. I wonder what standard PicoPSU is :-)

FSP120-50GNF (120W) FSP150-50TNF (150W) http://www.spi.com.tw/english/1_product/2_detail.asp?mainid=2&fid=143&proid=559 They are fanless, have #8 molex, ATX, small size and, that's what interest us the most, 85%-82% efficiency. Funnily enough, they are not listed on 80+ website. Did anyone have one ...

ATM the best (=cost/effective) server setup is: M2A-VM + BE-2300 + 2GB ECC Intel CPU are bond to the chipset for ECC compatibility, so there aren't nice microATX server boards. If you want the setup to be more energy efficient, you could go single-core with a LE-1100, it should be enough for just mu...

And is it possible to directly point out one of them and say "this one is the better one!"? WD3201AB...

Review up at Anantech . Sounds like a winner, but maybe these high densities are causing access time to increase. I think it is AAM related. Since higher densities comes with higher performance, manufacturers begin to think it would be a nice trade-off to reduce also noise by slowing down the hard ...

Re: WD 1Tb drives

Call me suspicious, but is there something about the raid edition 1tb drive I don't know about? At that price point it's very close to the price/Gb of the 500Gb drives, so am tempted to buy several of them. Perhaps, just low demand. I'd buy them without regrets. "RAID editions" are often superior q...

6 meters are not so much: you could build a USB cable by yourself, by using a ethernet cable (FTP Mediatwist by Belden would be the top), minimum 24AWG (stay away from 26AWG patch cords).
I think 30MB/s should be easily attainable.

Why RAID1 and not RAID5? RAID5 requires at least 3 drives. You spent $500 for 2*1TB drives; with RAID5 this would have been cut in half: $250 for 3*500GB drives. RAID5 has also a reading speed advantage (useful for a fileserver). WD's 1TB HDs use 4*250GB platters, while 500GB ones 2*250GB. So RAID1...

Nice. Just a bit overkill for a fileserver.

Why RAID1 and not RAID5?

Also, RAID is not really a backup solution. Wouldn't better than a RAID1 an offline backup on per-week basis?
