Are your summer time ambient temps >8C higher than now? It's about 17C inside today according to my thermometer. During the summer it will get hotter than 25C everyday during the long, dry, hot summers for months on end without a cloud in the sky that Britain is renowned for having. Seriously...

Re: Advice on a budget silent case

If you can't run the PWMs fan by PWM signal, then ... oooh ... well, they are pretty useless. The F12 comes as a voltage controlled version as well. Usually very cheap. Though you might be able to split the signal off the CPU fan header, which is usually PWM-enabled. I'd cut out the exhaust grill, i...

Re: Silverstone Raven RVZ02

I've been looking at the photographs and I'm not sure how you can tell _anything_ about the case from them. I can't even tell where the mainboard would sit.

Does it have to get even slimmer? At some point this just becomes too cumbersome.

Cases themselves are neither quiet or noisy, it's what you put in them that counts. What is your usage scenario? What other components are you using? People like you should be banned. There are hundreds of graphs on various sites showing different cooling/noise results for cases with identical comp...

If you want to go super budget you might be able to just rig something up ghetto-style. Have you go pictures of your case? Perhaps replacing the fans is all you need.

Re: HDD humming noise vs manufacturer variance

I have bought 4 WD6400AAKS drives, manufactured around similar date, one is totally silent, one makes slight vibration, and two makes absurd vibration which makes the whole case resonate. If you check out the WD3200AAKS review, you'll see in the post-script that there were at least two very distinc...

Re: HDPLEX 2nd Gen H5 heatsink case

Sorry for my ignorance, but how does a linear PSU differ from any other PC-PSU we know; and what's the advantage?

I'm also curious about the photograph. Is the graphics card reversed? The block is on top of it. So either it is a special model, or the PCIe slot is near the case wall.

I wouldn't call Mantle a stunt. It showed how much benefit could be provided if they went back to writing lower level software. #2. As far as I can tell it 'inspired' the others to up their game. Maybe on the theory side Mantle was/is better than my perception of it, but it never became a factor in...

Re: HDD mounting for DIY nas case

I think the better mounting mechanisms use silicon pads screwed onto the side of the drive.

If you use larger, thicker pads and corresponding indentations in your hold-rails that should be pretty secure and keep vibrations at bay. Also, make your drive cage as stable as possible.

Not sure why you would do this to a MSI 960GTX though. It's passive in idle and I don't notice it under load either - it's so easily drowned out by case fans. But your personal mileage may differ.

How big is your current case?

And I think you need to explain to your wife that EM radiation danger is strongly dependent on its frequency and dose (or just tell her it's safe). Or you might as well start wearing a foil hat.

If all you want to do, is stream audio, then I'd question the i7 concept. Maybe a passive NUC is the more suitable (and probably cheaper) alternative? I'm not sure whether these filters add anything to your audio quality. In particular the SATA filter seems like a load of pixie dust. If you want to ...
