For the price of adding a VFD to a 2400 you could just about buy the Fusion. Having built systems in both I like the Fusion better. I think it is also slightly quieter. Not greatly, but I think the thick aluminum front might block some of the noise, either through its sheer mass, or it is adding rig...

I'm guessing that it's intended as some flavor of a POS, right? I could see a potential for it as a set-top media relay type system. Lacks the storage capacity to really use it as an htpc, but it could stream data from a remote server to the tv/audio system. If it had the space inside for more stora...

The issue of "impartiality", either perceived or real, comes up more often than most readers would realize during the "behind the scenes" conversations the staff has here at SPCR. It's an issue for pretty much every product review organization, be it computer parts, appliances, cars, whatever. There...

Well no wonder it's need 2 GB of RAM to run properly. :? If they're not turn...

I think I get what vertigo is thinking...he's just a bit confused about how it works under Vista. Vista's "Superfetch" feature fills a portion whatever ram is unused at that moment with whatever it thinks you are going to ask for next off the HDD. (It leaves some space empty in case it guessed wrong...

I suspect that you're using the wrong ambient temps. You need to use the in-case temperature, not the in-the-room ambient temp. There's no good on-mobo sensor to measure that though. You'll need to stick a thermometer in there, near where the HSF is drawing air into itself, and see what temps you ge...

yeah, Ciz is right-on. Vista handles RAM much differently that XP does, so comparisons between the two are not really apples to apples. The Superfetch tends to put more stuff into RAM in anticipation of it being used, so theit looks like more RAM is in active use than it really is. But it also unloa...

Considering that Winbond H/W monitoring IC's are rated for a max operating temp of 70°C, I would say, no.Bluefront wrote:Is this anything to be concerned with? I doubt it, but........
It is good find to locate the chip though. You think you could post a pic of the mobo to show us where it is exactly?

Things look about like you would expect them to, given a system like that. As you're already aware, his CPU is producing a bunch more heat than your's...nearly double, actually. There is another interaction between the fan and a heat sink that I think is probably more interesting: the change in sound when a fan is placed against a heat sink vs its sound in free air.... So it might be a helpful step in a review to listen to the fan up against a heat sink... Too many variabl...

I feel your pain, really, but you're barking up the wrong trees. Go to UPS's site and read about the shipping terms. "3-business day" is average not guaranteed. The problem with voter ID's as I understand it, is that while it may or may not cost a fee for the ID (which would be an unconstitutional poll tax) -- if someone does not have the required papers to get the ID, they have to go through a lot of hoops, and it definitely does cost money to get them. O...

Trip, the Buchanan issue was with good old-fashioned 18th century technology paper ballots, and is not a case of election vote tampering. 0) would you be willing to use shared computer resources? I.e. not fully own your own computer or at least not all the CPU cycles/storage/memory that you use. Depends upon the implementation. North American availability. Unless you're thinking of some site I'm not familiar with, most other dedicated "silencing" websites are EU based, so their users tend to talk more about products that they can get there. Some of it might also depend on the knowledge levels of other forums. SPCR has a hi...
