I finally got round to testing an Athlon 3500+ (45W Lima-core).

FWIW... I'm wondering if the Intel G33 chipset has similar low power consumption? If so, it would be possible to build a system with still lower power. As far as I'm aware the AMD combination of CPU and mobo is far more efficient than Intel's. I can vouch for the low power consumption of the Asrock...

I'm seriously thinking of switching to this board for my low power system design (or perhaps an Asrock). How is Biostar in terms of quality? I'm reading left and right that it's not so fantastic. @ Kentc: According to Samsung your hard drive is 3.5" but it has the same power specifications as a 2.5"...

Well I gave undervolting another try with rmclock and it wasn't having any of it. It just BSOD'd and when I did get it stable enough not to die the difference in consumption was a watt or two so its not worth the stability risk. What voltage values did you use? The 3600+ I've undervolted so far wen...

Re: windows xp "standby" mode
hi all, lately i have been putting my computer (Gigabyte NF4 Ultra mobo, can't remember the model offhand) into standby to conserve power at night. when i do so, all my system fans (video card, cpu, case) continue to run, unlike Dell computers which seem to shut everything down. i also noticed that...

What motherboard are you using? A Gigabyte GA-M61PM-S2. I've run a performance test and here's the result. 3600+ vs BE-2350 CPU: 3695 vs 4145 System: 2833 vs 2975 The BE-2350's performance is more comparable to the X2 3800+, but still more expensive off course. By the way, I updated my BIOS so the ...

I would say the newer system consumes less power, mainly due to the integrated graphics vs the discrete card in the old system. Of course the second system also performs many times better. However, if the specs of the old system are sufficient it's better to reuse it or use it a bit longer. During a...

Not sure if this has any bearing on your figures or if it's just a typo. Price/performance-wise, it still looks as though the 3600...

The VID is locked. The specified lower vcore is probably the acceptable range for the package. AFAIK, in order to go lower, one would need BIOS undervolting. You could also mod your VID pins ;) Okay, forget I asked. :) I have a relative new CPU to add (tested it today): AMD X2 BE-2350 (AM2) stock -...

Thanks, I've added your results.
If I may ask, how come the Meroms don't go below a 0.950v (T5600) and 0.975 (T7400) respectively. According to this site it should be able to vary between 0.75~1.3V.

Maybe a good case would be the NSK3480 (14"(H) x 7.8"(W) x 13.8"(D))? It has an 380 W Eartwatts PSU (80+ certified), which is probably just as good as the Seasonic you mention. Everything else looks quite good in my opinion. I don't know about the board and the 7050-chipset but it should have a good...

I would just set it directly to 1.15v and do the 24 hour prime95(on both cores) In my experience Orthos is a much easier to use stress testing program for dual cores. You have to perform a trick with the command line for Prime95 and with my 3600+ it didn't work. With Orthos you just press one butto...

Undervolting: how low can you go?
I've done a bit of undervolting with several CPUs and discovered that one can save quite a bit of energy with it, especially if you're involved in things like folding@home. Although the procedure is quite simple, finding out the minimum voltage values for your CPU takes a bit of time testing etc. It...

I'll give it another go when I get some time. Use this freeware program . Here's a tutorial . It's a bit outdated bu...

Sorry for answering this late. So, here are my test results for the 300W SFX PSU that's in the Antec NSK3300 (will test the 380W PSU in the NSK3400 this week) versus a 80W PicoPSU with an 80W Edac power brick. You can also see what undervolting brings you. http://www.picserver.nl/i/AZWPTO22W7KY/256/...

Undervolting will get you another 10% to 35% depending on load. I've got my X2 3600+ running idle at 0.8v and at stock clock speed it's 1.0v (just like the Sempron). The PicoPSU will probably be very interesting power consumptionwise. I'll have a look at my test results and tell you the difference b...

Do you have the latest version of RMClock (2.25 I believe)? My 3600+ didn't function well with the previous version either. I had some trouble testing my X2 3600+ (Brisbane).
