ASUS EeeBox E410

Saw this on Fanlesstech and looks interesting. With the upright configuration, and vents on both the bottom and top, it appears it might be able to draw in cool air through the bottom vents and exhaust warm air at the top using convection. One potential problem I see is the bottom vents appear to be...

ASUS Chromebit

The ASUS Chromebit is a stick form factor computer running Chrome OS that is due to be released later this year. Being an ARM device I don't consider it a direct competitor to the Intel Compute stick, however, unlike the Compute stick, the Chromebit appears to be fanless. Price is said to be under $...

Re: Best barebone system ever, Intel Compute

I was thinking this was going to be really nice until I read this review: http://liliputing.com/2015/04/intel-compute-stick-mini-computer-with-windows-review.html They stuck a tiny little fan in there! There are vents on the top, left, and right sides of the Compute Stick, and if you place your hand...

Re: List of fanless laptops

I'm already hell annoyed that my macbook air doesn't have 2 thunderbolt ports so I can run two monitors (of course the 2014 model didn't get displayport 1.2). I'm sure the vast majority of MacBook Air users don't run any external monitors, let alone two. And I'm guessing Apple thinks their customer...

Re: List of fanless laptops

2015 Macbook. Core M processor, 12" 1440p display, and a single interface port (Type-C USB). Yep. This is really nice. The logic board is tiny! The new butterfly key mechanism is interesting. The idea of reducing key wobble is something I like. Not sure how I feel about needing an adapter plugged i...

Re: List of fanless laptops

On the other hand some quoted mainstream laptops are actually unavailable (like the Toshiba, or the Dell Inspiron 15 3531) and apparently they haven't been replaced by any current model, so IMHO that's an info which should be present in the list. Which is why I suggest using a groupware approach to...

Re: List of fanless laptops

Appears the OP is no longer updating the list at the top of the thread, and soricx's list is the most up-to-date complete list. One thing forum software does not excel at tidy organization of data. Right now our fanless laptop data is scattered around various posts in this thread. More ideal might b...

Re: List of fanless laptops

Would be nice if they could make these fanless designs completely sealed with no vents and thus free of any possibility of dust entering the chassis passively. But I suppose there are still heat issues that need to be dealt with.

Re: WD Red 6TB and Red 1TB (2.5-inch) HDDs

No spin-downs that I noticed, just head-parking. And the head-park delay is quite long by comparison. I have a pair of 3TB reds and they are as quiet as the greens but should have a longer life without that dumb head parking. I'm confused. The reds park heads but have a long delay before doing so? ...

Re: WD Red 6TB and Red 1TB (2.5-inch) HDDs

Thanks to Lawrence Lee for reviewing these. Can anyone verify that the 2.5" Red does not have the instant spindown issues that myself and others experienced with WD Blue 2.5" drives? The instant spindown on the Blue made it unusable for me.

I'm confused because when I search for this model number I'm finding both Samsung and Seagate. Which is it, or is it both???

I still haven't bought another 2.5" drive yet since my first attempt. But I still want to get one.

Although I doubt many would actually be able to do it given the troublesome access to the SODIMM slot.

Re: List of fanless laptops

Flex 10 has soldered RAM with a max of 4GB configuration. Acer's E 11 is hardly user upgradable and there is no confirmation from anyone that 8GB would work (see my review ). The only fanless I am aware of that reportedly support 8GB RAM are the upcoming Acer B115(P) and HP Pro x2 612 G1. I am yet ...

PSU quieter than PCP&C Silencer MK III?

compact & quiet cube refrigerator?

I'm shopping for a compact cube-style (smallest size) refrigerator. Consumer Reports rated a Danby DRC059BLE as excellent on noise, but that is an old report and the fridge they tested is no longer made. The newer Danby DAR195BL seems to have positive customer reviews on Amazon, so that's the one I'...

That seems nice because it's actually a tablet with a keyboard dock. That means all the heat-generation happens away from the keyboard? (so that keyboard remains room temp at all times?)
