Wierd, my first reply disappeared from the topic. Deleted? Anyway, since you're a first timer, I'll make this easy on you... Since you need this computer for recording purposes, I'm going to tell you everything you need to Pimp This Out (tm) for low/no noise. First, take a look at this thread: http:...

The first question to ask is... what type of fans do you have running? If you are going to run 120mm fans, you need to get a zalman fan mate or a 5 1/4 bay fan controller so you can undervolt them to the 5-7 volt area. You'll need to get quiet fans from Pabst, NMB, or Panaflo. On the CPU, are you us...

The higher number BeanTech Igloos have doodads like windows and doors, but otherwise are the same as the simple Igloo 1 (silver) and Igloo 3 (black), which have no doors or windows. I'm not sure which Igloo model matches the Kingwin in the Anandtech review, as I have been looking for windowless mod...

I don't need SATA; I was just going to get the SATA 'Cuda V rather than the PATA 'Cuda V for better performance. Having heard so much about the Samsungs, however, I will probably get a Spinpoint P80 as you suggest. Is there much of a difference in performance between the 8MB cache SATA and 8 MB cac...

Seasonic Super Silencer 400w

Anybody know any reputable American on-line stores that carry this model PSU? MY current Sparkle sounds like a vacuum cleaner once it gets warm (and it gets warm a LOT easier since I replaced my Geforce 2 with a 9800 pro).

To be honest, I don't always pay attention to my start temperature... My computer was on while fixing myself breakfast, and when I got to it it said the drive was 25, but, then again, my cpu and case temp are also about 3-5 degrees lower than normal (right now CPU 27, and Case 28). I keep my room at...

I've got the 1213N, and it works fine with the Asus P4C800 Deluxe board. I didn't bother to check the Smart attributes until I saw your posting, but my Spin up time has been a consistent 63 over the last 6 times I've booted my computer. My drive's temp can start as low as 27, is usuallyat 31 (at nig...

I dont know if you can buy it separately, but the Zalman MFC comes with two normal wires, and two special wires... The special wires allow you to plug one end into the MFC, the middle connector into the fan, and the end connector into the mb for RPM sensing. But I don't know where you can buy it :( ...

My desk has a storage area for my computer (you know... the type with a closable door). When my HP CD-ROM powers up it vibrates... a lot. I can feel the vibrations if my foot touches the desk. I went to Lowes and spent 3 bucks on rubber furniture pads... took care of the problem quite nicely.

Also... how loud the fan sounds can also depend on your case (+ and acoustical absorbing material like magic fleece or Acoustipack). It may be that your fans don't get quiet/silent sounding till 5 volts. Maybe 7 volts. Possibly even 8 or 9 volts. It gives you a little more control over how much powe...

Looking for a case

I'm looking to buy a new case in the near future. I've taken a look over the recommended list, but none of them seem to quite have what I'm looking for. I want a case that: 1) Has grommet mountings for the hard drives 2) Has grommet mountings for 5.25 bays (CD-ROMS, etc) 3) Is made out of aluminum 4...

Your setup seems fine, but... 1) I would recommend Arctic Silver Ceramique - it's the same (or better) as ASIII, except it's not electrically conductive. Nice to know you won't have to worry about frying something if you get it in the wrong area... 2)Go for a Barton. On New Egg, it's only about $40 ...

it's very easy to ground a hdd to your case...

just connect a wire to your hdd and a spot on your case..

I figured that out... But part of the whole point of decoupling is to cut down on vibration... metal to metal contact kind of ruins that :(

A question on quieting drives...

Okay, I currently have a Samsung 1213N, which is pretty bloody quiet. But, after shutting off the extremely noisy drive cooler and slot coolers, I can occasionally hear seek noises from the drive. The thing is, I've been interested in getting either a No Vibes III or a Smart Drive 2002. But, while l...

Unless you're using it for photo or video editing 512 is plenty. If you're not maxing it out and running on virtual the extra RAM doesn't help performance at all. Actually, you don't necessarily have to solder anything. You need the fan, the three pin connector, and a bag of crimps (You need three, but their cheap, get ten or twenty in case you mess up). You'll need to trim the exposed wire a bit. Slide the remaining end into the crimp, so that is JUST touche...
