WD1600AAJB I've used 4 of these and they are very very quiet and I'm very pleased with them. One of them though started making a very high pitched whine which I had a problem tracking down. I actually found that when it was doing it it must be at the same frequency of something in the PSU as it made...

39W is the total system consumption or just mobo+cpu? What else is on your system if 39 is total? 38w @ desktop idle via CnQ and with CnQ off 45w Seasonic S12 380w, 2 x 512mb 800mhz memory, AMD 64 x2 4000, Gigabyte 690v mobo, Western Digital 160gb SATA hard drive, stock AMD HSF, Pioneer DVD writer....

I clocked the gigabyte IGP to 200 but it doesn't run cooler. It saves a about 2-3 watts though. It seems odd the Biostar runs cool. The biostar northbridge chip looks a good size, bigger than the Gigabyte. The asus is tall but not that big overall foot print. I doubt the size though would be enough ...

On the gigabyte 690v and thus I suspect the 690g you can control the IGP mhz. On then 690v they overclock it by default, you can loose a few watts but matching to the default. Can the Biostar do that same ? I found the 690v used more power than my asus 690g board initially. Once I changed the PSU to...

The Gigabyte is running bios F4 and yes CTRL-F1 works to get to advanced features. I had 2 x 512gb @ 667mhz, I clocked to 800 which made 1w difference. The IGP runs at 400 by default, according to wikipedia the 690v is a 350mhz part so I dropped that back. Again that made 1w difference so overall I'...

690g v 690v
I've got a Asus M2A-VM HDMI (690g) and a Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2 (690v). The Asus has vcore voltage options the Gigabyte does not. If you want to underclock the Gigabyte use RMClock. Anyway the point of this. Using a Sempron 3200+ manila core with the same PSU, memory, no drivers connected the Gigabyt...

I've got my PC hooked up with a oneclick power strip so once the pc if off it shut off fully (0 draw) the other devices e.g screen and printer. Its a bit disappointing that my PC still draws 7 watts when its in soft off. I've checked and WOL etc are off in bios so I guess thats at low as it can go. ...

Antec Earthwatts standby power
Does anyone know what the standby draw is for the Antec Earthwatts PSUs ? All the current PSU I've tested draw about 6-8w when they are off which seems like a waste.

I installed XP with AHCI mode enabled in bios. Install went fine, boot times are fast and the overall XP experience when using the hard drive is fast and good and I'd recommended it. However as other posters have pointed out in Vista is slow and causes problems. Gina, I had bios 0501 when I had fast...

If you want the AMD Away driver PM me and I'll email it, its very small. Per my media problem I stripped all the drivers tried Asus, 7.2, 7.3, 7.5 and the various south bridge drivers as well. No joy. So I bit the bullet and updated the bios from 503 to latest 703 beta. Bingo !! Video, no matter wha...

I forgot to ask one important questions ! All videos, mpeg, mpeg2, dvd, real video, divx, xvids, TS, mkv play at double speed or as fast as the pc can go on the high def stuff. Does anyone else get tis ? Even if I change which codec is used to play back e.g FFDShow or CoreAVC it still does it. Its n...

Thanks for replying Steve_Y and mtavares (that new heatsink looks very interesting, hope the video is up soon). I'm new to this so just got CrystalCPUID and Prime 95 setup to try out. I've just got one of this boards and built it using a AMD x2 3600+ 65w cpu. I've undervolted the vcore to 1v and it runs very stable. .950 is as low as I can go and it still boots and seems ok but I'll experiment a bit more. 0.925 boots but as soon as the XP logo appears the pc reboots everytime so ...
