Well, I can't really honestly say, since the only thing that I saved from the P160-build was a couple of hard drives. But they are at least a lot more quiet when suspended in the P150 (and cooler! go figure) than they were in the P160.

Hmm, that's weird. I've run a 9800pro passive with a Zalman something (can't remember the name) and a friend of mine is running his X800Pro with the same type of cooler without any problems.

That seems a bit high I would say, my three suspended drives (Hitachi x2, Maxtor x1) hovers around 35C with 1-2 (doesn't make any difference) 120mm Nexus. As to why...

Did you use the Super Lanboy with just one nexus as well?

Probably memory errors. Run memtest86 and test if you get any errors. Not that uncommon, my CAS 2 Corsair XMS must be run on CAS 2.5 to work in the premium, otherwise I get a ton of errors. YMMV.

I guess I could return them, but I just don't have the energy ;)

Sorry, I'm a total Linux newbie.. installed a few distros way back but thats about it ;)

The Tyan boards are currently running Windows Server 2003 with Opteron 165 processors and between 2-4GB RAM. Rock solid so far, with one at least undervolted (for cooler operation) if thats something you want.

I too would've loved the stealth bays, but the price certainly justifies their absence. What can stealth bays add to the total cost? Not many dollars.. I guess they want people to buy the Fusion instead then if it has them, but then you get the VFD which is a bit of an overkill IMHO. Maybe if they ...

There must be a better board for a regular rig. We use this board in three servers, but it's pretty expensive, and does not have many options for overclocking and so on. But it's stable, I'll give it that, but so are many other boards as well when you're not stressing them.

Well, I have a pretty similar setup (see sig) with an overclocked X2 3800+. I'd say that there is absolutly no reason to have a front case fan if you only have one drive, I have three drives (not particulary cool running) that hovers around 35C which is quite acceptable. If you are going to put in a...

Re: Case selection

I'll be building another machine in a couple months and if I could purchase the P150 at a reasonable price (say $75) without a power supply, then the P150 would be my first choice for that build. SPCR's review of describes the case in detail, but I particularly like the air intake, the damped case,...

Maybe you should try running it outside the case, to see if it spins up even when it's not warm. Might be a defect. Seems weird that the case would get so hot after only a minute, but I guess it's possible.

Question – can you overclock without heating up a passively-cooled chipset? I.e., can you overclock the CPU without it affecting the chipset? I have had three Neo HE 430Ws, and tried them with three different boards.

S0509 #1: Works with NF7-S v2.0, Asus Nforce3 board
S0509 #2: Works with Asus Nforce3 board
S0512: Works with NF7-S v2.0, Asus Nforce3 board and Asus A8N-SLI Premium

So, 2 out of 3, pretty good odds ;)

Well, the HDs are more quiet when suspended, but it's up to you. If you are worried about the rubber bands snapping you could use MikeC's advice: insert a HD bay/rails inverted under the HD(s), which would make the drop at most a centimeter or something. The "dampening material" is apparently not da...
