So the REAL problem, which has been much lamented in many other thread and articles, is that no one seems to make well-balanced ATX power supplies that are EFFICIENT in a lower part of the power curve. Less heat generated means less fan power to cool it. Sure there's a Seasonic 300 Watt unit that is...

Corsair HX 520 back in stock at Buy.com

The Corsair HX 520 just came back in stock at Buy.com, priced at $106 with free shipping.

Too bad this couldn't happen last week when they still had that -$20 offer for Google Checkout.

Back up to original step please, and define what you mean by "fileserver/router/firewall". What kind of load do you have, and what kind of performance are you looking for? For example it makes no sense to have a single-user with gigabit ethernet, talking to a very slow storage device. Quite a lot of...

A good point about QUALITY if you translate this to reliability.

We are all reading lots of posts about NeoHE unit defects, and about motherboards not booting with this or that hardware.

The reviews at SPCR nitpick every aspect the sample item well, but can't cover this other issue.

It is fanless, meaning it has a big heatsink and will work just fine. The CPU runs cool enough that it does not need a fan to move away heat faster. This is a GOOD thing because one less thing to break. Do not worry about this. You don't specify much more detail about what kind of load you expect. "...

So Merom can do XP 64-bit . Hmmm, be interesting to see if those numbers do really add up to a big improvement....

That is a more-than-sufficient board for server duties like firewall, etc. in a SOHO setup. In fact I'd say it's overkill. Depends on what you mean by "web & email" part of problem though. You can always make the lightbulb argument regarding a 70% versus 80% PSU. Or that the first place to look for household energy-saving is at your HVAC, fridge, or washer/dryer units. I didn't start this thread with a question about saving money on my electric bill. I'm interested in what is the edge...

Yes, LostCircuits already did some tests on Core2 check their site.

E6300 takes as much idle power as E6700 so currently no reason to buy smaller-cache units, at least from power standpoint.

DISAGREE. The Solo is already a bit deeper than most other cases I measured. It's just barely short enough to fit on the shelf in my living room I have for it, if it was even a little deeper I wouldn't have bought it. This is a case for people building medium-sized PC's. best mini-ITX board?

What I am looking for is the "best" mini-ITX board that is currently out. This is such a niche market it's awfully hard find comparative reviews. I'm looking for something fanless, efficient, and as low-power as I can get it. So I'm looking at the boards with CPU's of 1.2 GHz and under. A little Lin...

I'm thinking strongly about the EPIA 533 unit I found at NewEgg for $100. I can probably dig up a low-profile ethernet card that will fit in the enclosure I have in mind. lowest-power dual-LAN firewall setup?

I am looking to spec out a NEW low-power x86 firewall box. CPU speed is not important to me on a firewall, so the Via EPIA 533 is fine. I think a Pico-PSU unit for power. Going as low as I reasonably can on power would be best. I do have some demands that compromise this, like I would prefer to use ...
