I've intended to post about this, but here's an excellent thread to add to. First, about halving the c.f.m. by using two fans Mike C said that two fans @ 6V move as much air as one fan @ 12V - not fully true. Check the above diagrams from Adda, curve c in the second picture. With one fan, intersecti...

AC Freezer is good bang for bucks
I've recently switched from stock cooler to the AC Freezer, and temperatures and sound went well down, drop 10 C / ?? dB. Some have reported the AC fan to wear quickly, mine is two months only so I can't tell. Anyways I recommend it, it's cheap, not very heavy and works wonders with temp. I suppose ...

From what I read on the forums the Prescott runs much hotter. I have the Northwood 2.4 myself, and with the Arctic Cooler Freezer 4 it's a breeze (!) to cool, CPUBurn usually give 55 deg C at moderate fan speeds. Anyway, I bought the CPU last August, and they were not easy to come by even then, but ...

This is probably what happens: - The fan's RPM is controlled by temperature measured at the fan hub. - In blow mode, it senses the temp BEFORE the heatsink, i.e. case temp of perhaps +35 deg C. - In suck mode, it senses the temp AFTER the heatsink, i.e case temp plus temp increase through heatsink, ...

I second what's said on grilles
I also did some extensive testing regarding my (cardboard) CPU duct, and the amazing result was that ducting made things worse! The duct was a rectangular box, guiding air from the back grille to the CPU fan top. Then took temperature readings with and without duct, resulting in: CPU temp: Duct +55 ...
