It doesn't seem that unreasonable. Note that the HD322HJ is listed as a bare OEM drive, while the HD300LJ is not. Those are most likely shipped in retail packaging, for which you'll be paying more. Reviews for the site appear to be overwhelmingly positive, so they most likely do have the drives avai...

Searching around Samsung's US site today, I couldn't find any mention of their F series drives at all. The drives appear to only be featured at their global site. More interesting to note though, is that I found a US site that actually put up a product listing for the HD322HJ today. Lagoom.com doesn...

- RAM: I'm starting with 2x2GB, later I'll probably try 4x2GB (depending on server load, I'll try reusing it for more than just file server duties); What version of Windows are you planning on using? If you intend to use a 32 bit OS, be aware that 4GB will be the maximum amount of RAM that you'll b...

Just check the Samsung F1 thread . The 320 and 640 have been available in Europe since mid-March. These are drives that Samsung announced as "shipping" almost a year ago, and they still aren't available in North America. I was kind of hoping to get one of these last fall. : \ From what I've read, th...

Seagate Offers Refunds on 6.2 Million Hard Drives from Nov 2007. The fact that Seagate lost a lawsuit on the matter as recently as 2007 seems to indicate that the traditionalists may be winning. Actually, Seagate 'settled' the lawsuit, so they didn't actually lose in court. They could have gone thr...

I don't see any real issue with using base-10 drive capacities either. Technically, hard drives are using the SI prefixes correctly, while the file systems are misusing them. The kilo prefix means 1000, not 1024, just as tera means 1,000,000,000,000 and not 1,099,511,627,776. What an OS like Windows...

I expect most people don't have 90 GB of music though. What bitrate is that encoded at, anyway? At 128kbps (used by services like iTunes) that works out to around 25,000 songs. Even at 320 kbps that would be around 10,000 tracks. : ) Digital video storage could easily consume a lot of space though, ...

Newegg now has the 1000 and 750 gig F1s available as OEM drives for USD $279.99 and $179.99 respectively. That's actually lower than they're selling most other drives of similar capacity for. I'm interested in the 320 gig though, which they don't yet have. So long as it performs nicely, it should ma...
