Yeah, I'm looking forward to the Greyhound as well...but that's a year and a half off i.e. forever in computer years. Just get a solid Seasonic for your rig now and get a new PSU whe you layout $1200USD on a Greyhound when it comes out. I can't chide you too much though. I'm already planning out a u...

NMB fans were around back when back when silent computing was less science and more art+trial and error. None of the NMBs that I know of would really be considered the best choice nowadays, but they were not too uncommon and served as a solid stopgap. Haven't tried the Young Lin. Hey, at $4.50/fan y...

Yeah, you must assume the spec. sheet is a lie. The Nexus isn't the absolute quietest axial you can get, I need to update the first post, but it's a solid choice that you really can't go wrong with - you know every fan purchased is a good sample. The only guys who don't like it are the 150cfm freaks...

In general, the thicker 38mm and higher blade count (less freespace between the blades is really what matters here) = better performance in more restrictive environments e.g. heatercore. :)

Cooling your GPU, you could look into the Thermalright designs. V-1 and V-1 Ultra. Have fun putting your rig together. Landroval is right though. The only difference between a factory overclock is how much money you give them. The performance is the same and lifetime is the same. Just some OC advice...

Not to knock on MadShrimps too much as I have found much of their material useful in general, but this is kinda run-of-the-mill type stuff to be posting at SPCR. I give the reviewer a lot of credit for going through all the hassle he did, but most of us here are looking for uber-silence geek material.

I'll be happy to do a more practical thing: use them in a system I am in the process of building to see how they work. :) That would be awesome, thanks. :) [on the side]Question - why the duel vids? I'm running dual vids myself with a 3dfx V5 5500 PCI, but that's just for native Glide compatibility...

Hey Neil, Thanks for the mini-review! How good do you feel your fan samples were and also, how representative do you feel they were of that fan model? (For example, you may feel one sample you have is excellent, but you have to buy twenty of them to find one so good). The Yate Loon, wow, I'm a bit s...

Good to see you're still up to your old tricks Bluefront. :)

I really like your harddrive mounting. All the advantages of elastics, but more secure (or, atleast, less worrisome). And looks like less sag too - more drives in the same space. Nice work!

Yeah, forgot Silencio. Isn't there another spcr friendly euro or ebay vendor, or am I dreaming a second one up?

Yeah, if someone's going to go with BB, the Papst4412 is typically the fan of choice. A BB YL is kind of in no man's land.

Better: Orange or Black YLs? / Anything Needed 2add2 Sticky?

That's another place to be careful......the Yate Loon model # D12SL-12. They seem to use that # on different fans. I have some orange D12SL-12 fans that run about 1350rpms. And I have a blue LED D12SL-12 that runs about 1600rpms. Obviously two different fans with the same model number. Hard to figu...

Good idea. Tupperware should do the trick relatively well. I believe all plastics are permeable to an extent though, so you may need to redehydrate the desiccant (silica gel) every so often. Glass would probably be your best material. But a good ground lid (that would seal with grease) is pretty pri...

Unfortunately my experience would not concur with "inaudiblness" of the MadDogs @ 5v. My pair are simply of Nexus quailty...but not suprising considering the price difference.
