Thanks Ralph. :D

Btw, when a CPU is rated at say 70w, does it need 70w all the time? If it's idling, does it require substantially less?

Link req for CPU info listings

I found a link in these forums to a long long list of CPU's. Every CPU listed, with wattage info etc. Pages were blue in colour.

Searched and searched, can't find it

Massive PSU Review List

Just found this.

http://www.amdboard.com/psu.html

Don't know if it's been posted before.

Just discovered, in a review of the new Fortron 400 (120mm), that it's fitted with the highly rated Papst 4412 F2/GL.

A computer uses about 300 watts ? for 8 hours a day 5 days a week (40hours 50 weeks a year) Not 300w. Probably 100-200W average, depending on use and spec. So say 150w average. So halve that cost saving. Yes, you don't save much, say £21 total if the PSU lasts 5 years. Plus, in the winter, you'll n...

Z400B review here: http://www.dirkvader.de/page/zm400b-aps.html The Z400A suffered from a ticking problem, otherwise an excellent PSU. The Z400B is the one I’ve short-listed. Fingers crossed that a company with Zalman’s rep, will have sorted the ticking with the B. I need to order next week, so I to...

Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 SATA UK availability

I've seen the SATA 250GB available, but has anyone spotted the 40GB and 160GB SATA's in the UK?

How long 'til they're available?

It reminds me of another ugly box, my washing machine! Let’s hope it’s not as noisy.

What are you saying? The revised 3700AMB has a new rear grille exactly the same as the 3700BQE? Or the grille is somewhere between the old AMB and new BQE?

I was talking to a company yesterday, that might be building my computer. They've gained good magazine reviews for quiet systems, so they know their stuff. They were listing the Zalman 400 as a build option, but they told me yesterday, there is definetley a "clicking problem" with the Zalman 400, an...

The Zalman also came top of the pile in this PSU shootout.. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1841

Most impressive is how it keeps so cool with only one 80mm fan, compared to those with more fans or bigger fans.

Front fan grille mystery

As a newbie, I’m failing to understand what purpose is served by having fan grilles located between the front fan and the outside casing. What are they guarding against? Surely they are a restriction to air-flow – also a restriction to noise escaping, which may be why Ralph decided to leave his in p...

Okay thanks. Now how do I calculate the db level of two 92mm fans, versus one 120mm? I found the spec of a 92mm Panaflo to be 42.7 cfm @ 27db. So presumably two of these would create 85.4 cfm, but would that double the db to 54db, or would it stay at 27db, or would it be somewhere in between? Is the...

What’s the deal with 92mm fans?

Are they meant to cool CPU’s only, or are they intended as case fans as well? I can find very little reference to 92mm fans when checking various case stats. It’s nearly always.. “this case can take 80mm fans” or “is fitted with 80mm fans” or occasionally 120mm fans. Presumably 92's can be an option...
