if you're serious i could. my dream would be to design this stuff all day you know. but working part time can't go on forever. standard atx parts yep. there are a few other ideas though. one is to reduce the width by using some laptop components. a motherboard re-design could also help but that's wa...

that's a good idea with the hard drive...dropped the temp about 2 degrees. Western digital says max operating temp is 55 celsius so i dont think its a worry. there is just a cut-out on the bottom (below). with more time there would be a frame to mount the i/o plate and expansion slot covers. i thoug...

Pretty slick! One question--where is the hard drive/PSU getting air from? there is not much air flowing in that area so i would gladly hear temperatures from someone with a non de-coupled WD740. the aluminum heatsinks below (another trick learned here) surely help as they do heat up a bit . http://...

wall mounted pc

Incorporating a lot of stuff i learned here, i built this wall-mounted rig. http://img348.imageshack.us/img348/4030/mountedcovered4ay.jpg coincidently, i don't know if anyone noticed this but airflow might be superior when you rotate a motherboard 90 degrees. for example in the pic below: http://img...

An equivalent 80mm fan makes about half as much noise as a 120mm fan, while moving half as much air. not bashing, but i think this not true. noise is exponential to AIRSPEED not CFM. in other words both fans above will make about the same noise but the 120mm will have superior airflow. im using the...

there is a fan 3" above it. well, i know i should add a few degrees since its not reading the chip directly. care to guess how much?

could one predict temperatures on hot days - just add the numbers? its an nForce 4 ultra chip so ill think ill see if nVidia has any recommendations.

the actual cpu temperature turned out to be another number (reported in negative digits ( -10 idle).
but from what i hear cool 'n' quiet can not work with bad readings, so i guess this mobo should be returned. i hear faulty readings in the bios are not correctable. is this right?

accuracy of these temp sensors

hey all, i was checking my temps while running Stess Prime 2004 (Prime 95). the readings dont mesh with what i feel on the heatsink. Speedfan & NVmonitor reported 34 celsius while the heatsink (CNPS 9500) continued to get very hot. almost too hot to touch at the base. i would hate to touch the actua...

while on the subject, do you think one pull fan is just as good as one push fan? im guessing no because pull fans draw air from all directions. push fans direct all air through the heatsink. just a guess. btw this is really two sides of the same fan  maybe somebody recorded temps with both setu...

im planning on similarly mounting a 7900gtx vertically. the lower heatpipes may not work well but the top ones should run better than normal. my guess is it evens out but this is yet to be seen. heatpipes should have a wicking material inside them that transfers water by capillary action. i dont kno...

im glad i waited. just ordered one. here is nvidia's power requirements (not overclocked cards) if anybody is interested: these sources differ slightly: 7900 gtx: 350W-400W power supply (22-26A on the 12V rail) 7900 gt: 300W-350W power supply (20-23A on the 12V rail) http://firingsquad.com/hardware/...

hmm i have one. what do you think its purpose is? i guess 1) to intensify airflow around the cpu and 2) exaust the hot air out of the case. i wonder how sucessful it is (has anyone gotten speedfan to work with a dell?). are ducts good or bad? im sure the fans have to work harder to overcome the extr...

thanks,
im modding a case so thats why i was asking. looks like that case has a sheet of metal separating the two...im guessing it needs to be there to soak up the EMI. then again, the psu on my dell is 3" from the cpu and they arent separated...guess it wont hurt anything to try it.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ArcticCooling/AcceleroX2 Unfortunately that cooler vents hot air into the case, which seems like a very bad idea if you want to keep case temperatures low. true but as far as noise does it matter?: the case fans might ramp up more often but the vga fan would not b...
