I have a IC7, I just unplug the NB fan and it has been running without problems. I have the later NB fan rather than the earlier 'mushroom' like thing.

You probably can but a easier way is run it of flash - I assumed you want to remove the noisy hard disk. I run smoothwall on a flash disk in a compaq SFF P2 350Mhz. The only moving component in the system is a 8cm used to cool the PSU and CPU so it is very quiet - not silent thou.

I think LTSP 3.0 is based on redhat 7.X, if you can find a compiled version for that platform you may be able to just drop it in the /opt/ltsp tree.
