GFX 5900 Ultra 80mm mod

Well, it's not so much of a mod, more of a 'balance a fan there while I'm fixing other stuff'. Basically, I used a thin peice of wood through the fins of the heatsink to jam the stoc 40mm fan, and stuck a big crappy clear arcylic fan that came with my old case infront of it, running at 7V. It's abou...

If I understand what you're doing properly, the effect is somewhat similar to what happens with an airplane wing. The higher-velocity air coming out the case exhaust, directed over the PSU is of a lower pressure than the air inside the PSU. This causes the air inside the PSU to be sucked out, taking...

It's because by the time the fuse could melt and break the connection, the damage would have already been done.

It takes a few milliseconds for a fuse to break, but only a few microseconds for an IC to die.

You cannot 'loose electrons' in that way, except under extremely high voltages where you get leakage through something called the corona effect. But unless you are dealing with hundreds or thousands of volts, this will not be a factor. IDE cables do not carry thousands of volts. The reason the coron...

I decided to mount the 120mm HD bay fan at a 45 degree angle. Most of the wood has been cut to size and I've gotten all the necessary hinges and such. I'm wiring up a set of controls on the front of the case to switch fans between 7 and 5 volts, and an automatic switch attached to the side panel tha...

Lining HD enclosure with eggcrate foam

Im sure most of you have seen my new case project ( http://silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14439 ) I'm thinking about lining the inside of the HD enclosure with eggcrate foam, or possibly some other thin foam lining. Seeing as this is my primary air intake, would this be too restrictive to...

Most passive forms of attack will also be fairly noisey, especially on impact.

I suggest placing it in a tin can and putting it on a ring on the oven.

It'll be silent, unless you use the (optional) exhaust hood

It matters.

I may be into silence, but I'm also into performance.

If one is significantly better than the other, I should be able to crank some extra speed out of this card

Zalman zm80d-hp vs VGA Silencer R3

I'm having a hard time tracking down reviews of the ZM80D, and none that do a direct comparison to the VGA Silencer R.3 I know this topic has come up a lot, but people just keep on going back to 'Well, the Silencer has an exhaust system'. I don't use my PCI slots, except for one small card in the ve...

Panaflo FBA12G12W

Made in china from japanese components.

I couldn't find any reference of this model number anywhere in the forums, and only a few on Google.

I take it this is then not a recommended silent fan?

I've never seen it, but I know one way to filter out dust from the air is to charge a thin steel mesh. The dust will be attracted to it.

How you could do this safely in a PC, I don't know.

Elastically suspend it inside a hard-vacuum chamber.

It'll spin at even HIGHER than normal RPM, and produce no noise ;)
