Looks good Luka, thanks, even if we don't have the data plots. Good to be back on the actual topic, too.
I recommend Imgur for your image hosting needs. Very lax limits (I haven't run into any), free, reliable as all hell, easy to link to BBCode forums like these here.

Re: Scythe Kotetsu CPU Cooler: A Compact King
Here is a test where it's used different positions for tower CPU cooler. The result is really surprising. http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Which-is-The-Best-Position-for-a-Tower-CPU-Cooler/1815/4 (I don't want to make any advertising). Seeing as the case has a gaping hole instead of a top pan...

Re: Scythe Kotetsu CPU Cooler: A Compact King
Hah, no sweat. Abula's eyes were the sharpest in this case... I didn't notice the fan at all (and later didn't realise it was not the R4 I was looking at, geez). Plugging up holes is a good idea, less holes means less dust entry points and more airflow where it's supposed to happen. I think the rear...

I don't understand what you said. What is R4?! Where I have short electric circuit? The top and rear are exhaust fans. The bottom and front are intake fans. Is it possible to mount the heatsink so that the fan moves the air towards the top of the case rather than towards the rear of the case as displayed in the review? It's possible, but in that position the cooler moves the hot air from video card. Look at the picture. Why always temperature rise up t...

Re: Scythe Kotetsu CPU Cooler: A Compact King
So, even if you set affinity of Prime95 or Intel Burn Test to a single core, and run one single thread of it, that single core won't max out? Even if you overclock the CPU forcing a 38 multiplier for all cores? And that's a common issue with Ivy Bridge? Weird... personally I never encounterd a simi...

I don't understand: what's the question? I paraphrased what he said, essentially he was wondering if his CPU was faulty or not performing to its full potential since it's not reporting the 3,8 GHz overclock Intel advertises for it. I have the same CPU and mine never reaches 'the promised land' @sto...

Is it possible to mount the heatsink so that the fan moves the air towards the top of the case rather than towards the rear of the case as displayed in the review? Socket 1150 at least should have symmetrical mounting holes, so I don't see why not, as long as there is room to have the mounting bars...

MSI and the 900rpm fan...For grins, b4 you ship it, unplug/turn off the chassis fans and see if the video card is audible. Yeah, that's an awful lot of (generic) fans and HDDs for 'quiet', but that is a relative concept. Thanks for being a card donor, GentleGiant, as only a few people expressed int...

Are these scratches normal, on the base of the cooler? Depending on how rough the fi...

Looks a bit haphazard. Also brings to mind the Danger Den Torture Racks (or any number of acrylic panel contraptions). If memory serves, the Torture Rack was an exercise in tedium as well with screws, screws everywhere - but it could also hold 3.5" drives. PS. See here: http://www.tomshardware.com/r...

Re: Scythe Kotetsu CPU Cooler: A Compact King
I'm confused. In this tests, Kotetsu beats Mugen 4. How?! ... or maybe is just in this review. Because, as has been pointed out numerous times, size isn't everything. For example, the Ashura sported 100+ g AND a 140 mm fan over the Mugen 4, yet failed to beat or even match its performance. The reas...

...incredibly easy to define your own fan profile, you just can't go under 30%. Same story over at MSI Afterburner. It's ridiculous with these low-power cards (hell, even most midrange cards, I'd imagine), as the fan or fans will be spinning at over 1000 RPM while the GPU remains under 40 degrees C...

Yep. You could try a fan swap or an in-line resistor if the card uses a 2-pin (analog/voltage adjustment) fan.quest_for_silence wrote:Vinz wrote:Now wondering what I'll do to it to get it quieter...
AFAIK currently it's not possible (it's not possible for any Nvidia since the Kepler launch), but swapping the cooler.

The Accelero S1 is not compatible with GTX 750. Are there any passive heatsinks out there which are? I would imagine the Accelero Mono PLUS could be run passively on a 750. There's a good 300 g of heatsink with 5 heatpipes in it, which should suffice. The S1 is more suited for the task thanks to it...

1) No PWM. 2) No control over BIOS limits. Thanks for the research. I can verify that the budget MSI card at least uses a 2-pin fan , but its big brother Gaming uses good old 4-pin for PWM . On TPU, 2 out of the 3 cards reviewed use PWM (Asus and MSI, Palit being the odd one out). The MSI budget ca...

From what I've seen the MSI's should be the quietest out of the box, but I can't find any comparison between their two models. I recently fitted 16 of the 4GB Green drives into a backup server which runs Linux. I used the WD idle3ctl program to check and turn off idling, which was set to 80 seconds if I remember correctly, definitely much longer than the 8s that was once the factory settings on these drives. Thanks for the...

"Endless retries" = can't access data, drive repeating a clear pattern of noises as the heads try and try again. "Consistent waking" = the drive "wakes up" from low power states into operation the same way every time. Worn out or damaged drives may fail to start "cold" (from long power-off), or star...

I just bought a 3 TB Seagate NAS HDD. Seek noise is more pronounced than my Jan-2013 WD Red, but it is very muted and soft compared to the old WD AAKS that I have. Unintrusive but not quiet enough if used in a workstation - good thing it's in a NAS that'll go into a remote corner soon enough. Seagat...

SMART data and drive performance are pretty much the only indicators for your average consumer. If both are okay (no SMART warnings, no endless retrying, consistent waking, no sudden freezes etc.), then the drive is more than likely okay. Diagnostics can be used to detect performance degradation and...

Well, as you've concluded yourself, the thing to do would be to listen and compare. Maybe find someone who also has the new WD Reds.
