Case review request Silverstone ML06

Sorry if this isn't the right forum for this, but please point out which forum is and I will move the thread. Silverstone has a new miniITX case that is very similar in size to the Antec ISK300 although it is oriented with the long side as the front. Is it possible that SPCR can do a review, particu...

Re: Antec ISK300-150 w i7-4770 CPU - lots CPU in a small cas

Thanks for finding that photo. That appears to be a different mobo than mine and the CPU is more towards the bottom in mine which may require work on both sides of the drive bracket. I did reorient the cooler yesterday to that the airflow from the case fans should draw through the CPU heatsink howev...

Re: Antec ISK300-150 w i7-4770 CPU - lots CPU in a small cas

A quick update - before changing anything I decided to rerun some tests with Prime95. It looks like the temps are down a few degrees from my initial tests - perhaps there was some curing of the thermal paste. Here are my results before doing anything from Fri-Sat, again running Prime95 Torture Test ...

Re: Antec ISK300-150 w i7-4770 CPU - lots CPU in a small cas

And if I don't like the fan on the quiet I can probably replace it with a better fan. I won't bet on that option: you'd better delidding the CPU, if you dare to do it. Why do you say that - I know that with Zalman coolers from a few years ago that a fan change was not too hard to do. And if I screw...

Yes - I noticed the quiet and extreme. I am getting the quiet. I didn't check all of the details but I imagine the difference would be the fan. And if I don't like the fan on the quiet I can probably replace it with a better fan.

but as doing encoding/transcoding you will drive them to full load easily, one thing that you might want to consider is limiting the clocks on windows to kinda nerf what he can reach to pull it down to safer temperatures, kinda sucks to have to do this with such a capable CPU, but thats what i woul...

Re: Antec ISK300-150 w i7-4770 CPU - lots CPU in a small cas

My current RAM is made by Kingston I think, but I am not at home right now so I can't check. I think it is the standard height of 30mm - it does not have heat fins on the top. Why do you say that I need standard rather than low profile? Wouldn't low profile be even better. Or do you mean that I shou...

Re: Antec ISK300-150 w i7-4770 CPU - lots CPU in a small cas

There was some paste pre-applied and I did use some additional paste with the cooler but first I tried it in the optimal direction, but it didn't fit properly so then I rotated it 180 degrees and it still wouldn't fit so I finally rotated it another 90 degrees - but the heatsink was just put somewha...

What about the smaller Zalman the CNPS2X? It would leave a lot more space for air to move around although the heatsink is quite small.

Re: Antec ISK300-150 w i7-4770 CPU - lots CPU in a small cas

Thanks for your input. Do you think that I am right to be concerned about the direction of the fins in the heat sink? Would it make much difference if the heatsink could be rotated 90% so that the air could flow out to the fans at the side of the case? Here is a photo. See how the fins are oriented ...

there's one big point to note - I got the 150w version of this case. it was a mistake. In the pictures in the review, its blanked off (because its th...

Anyone have any experience with an Arctic Freezer 11 LP?

This seems to be quite low profile at about 53mm and according to their web page it has a max of 100W CPUs. I am thinking of using this on a system in an ISK-300 case with an i7-4770K CPU. The CPU has a TDP of 84W. This is a very small case but the only heat generating devices will be the CPU and mo...

Re: Antec ISK-300 Mini-ITX Case

Thanks Abula, I might wait for the ISK 600. I wish there was something between the breadbox size cases like the 600 and the smaller cases like the 300. In my opinion with processors like Haswell (or even SB and IB) you don't need a discrete GPU. And I only need room for an SSD in the case as I have ...

Re: Antec ISK-300 Mini-ITX Case

Anyone have any suggestions on what heatsink to use with this case? I want to build a system with a i7-4770K CPU which has a TDP of 85W. Of course I will use the ISK300-150 since a 65W PS is not enough for this CPU. According the review the max height in this case is 65mm or 75mm if you remove the H...

Probably true but Haswell is better at high quality encoding with Quick Sync processing if you plan to do that on your HTPC.

But if you are using this in your Home Theater setup then it makes sense to use IR since everything else uses IR. You can't generally control your TV and AVR with an RF remote. It will be nice when we have a day when we can use IP to control everything but I don't think we are there yet. I wonder ho...

@MikeC - Thanks for doing the testing for these types of cases - I find it very useful. FYI - HD Plex is coming out with a new smaller passive case called the H1. Re: Silverstone ML05 mini-ITX HTPC case

While we currently only offer 300W as our least powerful model, there are lower powered and cheaper SFX PSUs available on the market as well. I am continually puzzled by the lack of lower wattage PSUs. IMHO except for gamers there is no reason that anyone needs a PSU that delivers more than 150W. T...

if you don't have the mentioned spare parts, and if you're not a casual builder, I would suggest to buy them, regardless of your current problem. Thanks, that is good advice. Thanks for the suggestions folks - I have tried a different power supply with no luck. But even if the heatsink isn't working properly that shouldn't prevent the BIOS post screen, should...

Help my system won't boot - CPU or Mobo?

I put together a system about 20 months ago (described here http://www.hd-plex.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105). My system has a Zotac H67 ITX mobo and an Intel i3-2100 CPU in a fanless HD-Plex H3 case. A little while ago I noticed that my system seemed dead - I see no video whatsoever not even the B...

Re: Gigabyte GA-H77N-WIFI Mini-ITX Motherboard

For these reviews of Mini-ITX mobos it would be great if you could post photos of the underside of the board as well. Some times there are components very close to the CPU mounting holes that make it tricky to mount a heatsink, such as the heatsink used by the HD Plex cases. With my build using an A...

Why is the system so expensive? I built a fanless system with an HD-Plex case with similar specs 18 months ago and an i3-2100 and I think I spent $800 max, and that is when SSDs were more expensive.

Support for the attached Quick Sync transcoding engine is also starting to expand, though not fast enough for our liking. Thank you nutball. This appears to be called the Golden Lake NUC board. Most of the places carrying it appear to be in Europe currently. A place called Logic Supply sells it in the US for $380 which is $100 more than the system including the case at Newegg.
