Re: Is there a gold PSU that is not so expensive?

I did a search on NewEgg and filtered for Gold, Platinum, and Titanium up to 500W - and there are 33 PSU's under $100. The least expensive is $50 (Raidmax 500W Gold SLi / Crossfire ready, and it is modular). https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152068 Jeez, Neil, Raidmax is one...

Re: Ryzen is OUT!

... not for silencers, ... What do you mean? The CPU makes no noise, and Ryzen don't draw more power than Intel's equivalents (but benefit more from better cooling). The 1800x is roughly equivalent to a 5960X, and an HEDT isn't best suited for low noise system (hint: look at the overclocked power d...

Re: Which Fan: SilentWings 3 vs. Corsair ML Pro vs. NB eLoop

Where I'm still stuck is I could use hearing from more SilentPCReview-oriented opinions comparing the SilentWings to the Corsairs to the Nosieblockers. There's no match, IME/IMHO: albeit I didn't tested the ML140 (just the ML120), at the lower paces the Be Quiet SW3 win hands down, noise-signature ...

Still broadly speaking the most prone to fail parts due to heat are likely rectifiers/mosfets I would have gone for secondary side caps. With reference to ginahoy's own concern, silicon are the weakest point: you may use 125°C japanese everywhere but that won't save you from not decent/degraded sil...

What's the difference? Big difference. You made the point that my fan swap is a trade-off between noise and longevity. I could care less if I reduce remaining life from, say, 3 years to 2-1/2 years. But I do care if the modded power supply overheats to the point that fails in the near term, especia...

Turns out the spare fan in my closet was a Scythe SFF21E, which has fluid dynamic bearing (FDB). It's rated at 1200 CFM so it should be fine given my system's modest power consumption. It's definitely quieter than the stock fan. I keep my office at about 69F in the winter. Before it gets hot again,...
