computer enclosures when built properly can stop a lot of noise and bring the noise levels down heaps, http://mtrs.org/MTRS/noisecontrol.html melchoir's research assignment shows this very well, a basic enclosure has a hole in the bottom with a non-direct airflow path for the intake and a hole in th...

it does mention somewhere on the zalman website that u have to use SHEDLOADS of goop on the actual GPU for the HP cooler, don't know why they say it though, I agree with the paper thin layer, the goo no matter how good is still not as good as metal to metal contact...

I used Automotive sound deading foam for my setup, it's called something like closed cell foam or the like, very light and very easy to use.
The car audio guys use it for stopping road noise coming into the car, cheap as well :D

I believe they mostly say this because it *could* be dangerous, but really, it wouldn't. It's like with all these modifications, you do it at your own risk, if something goes kaboom, it's your fault, not theirs. but if nothing went kaboom were would all the fun go in modding? my opinion is that if ...

the other way to 7V mod of connecting the 12V and 5V rails causing the potential difference of 7V could be harmful to your PSU but I was running two 120MM papsts that I swear was pumping out 100CFM+ each at 12V there were NOT light duty fans one of them had stainless steel blades ;) the PSU seemed t...

if u look at the swifty's specs on the website they recommend a 80CFM fan on it for good performance and at LEAST a 60CFM one, considering that the peliter is rated and like 225W or so that's a LOT of heat to get rid of, u'd probably be better off with watercooling :)

lol 12-5V maybe would mean that u've got sparking along the switch, all switches are not perfect u'll get what's called "bounce" , it kinda looks like squgggle and slowly get's smaller think of a boucing ball and the look that'd make, that might be what's causing it :)

fan adapters in my experience are good in faster case fans but not in quiet case fans like the panaflow L1A, an I managed to get better performance by just directly strapping the 80MM fan to the Heatsink without a adapter to block it u could mount it this way as well http://www.overclockers.com/tips...

what he's probably trying to say is that when u undervolt the Antec fans it still has a acceptable amount of airflow at 5V and the noise level is still acceptably quiet enuff for his system setup probably louder than the Papst setup though .... :)
