Well, I tested it by running the CPU at 100% for an hour or so, and there was no problem. The PSU does get hot to the touch, but the built-in temperature LED stays green so this seems normal. However, I do have two Zalman 92mm fans, but since they are totally silent at > 10cm they do not contribute ...

No, not really. My current temperatures are CPU 41C and Case 33C. Remember that the 2.0G Willamette produces A LOT of heat. I haven't noticed any substantial rise in temperature, maybe 1-2 degrees C. I run the computer with one of the side trays off, though.

Nope, you can't hear it even with your ear against it.

The SilenX is expensive, yes, but now that I have heard the difference between active and passive PSU I think it is worth it.

My Pentium 4 2.0 ghz Willamette (0.18 micron) uses all three connectors as well. So it wasn't that long since it was used.

Silverstone 300W fanless PSU success story

Hello all, I just replaced my dying Zalman 300W PSU with a Silverstone fanless PSU, as reviewed here: http://www.systemcooling.com/sst-30nf-01.html If you can live with only 300W, this PSU is great. For reference, the computer it runs is: 2x Seagate Barracuda IV 40gb 1x Seagate Barracuda V 120 gb 1x...

MikeC, Thanks for your reply. Perhaps I should have made my situation clearer. In my old computer, I have four drives. All are Seagate Barracuda IV and V drives. They are so quiet and produce so little vibration there is no problem with having them installed directly in the case. However, in my new ...

From looking at your graph, it would seem that none of the enclosures reduce idle noise very much, or at all? Don't you think that graph shows total system noise, and not only HD noise? What I'm really after is a subjective opinion on how much the hard drive's idle noise is reduced. Thanks for the w...

Which hard drive enclosure is best?

I have been looking for a hard drive enclosure for a while, but I can't decide which to buy. There are at least three that I know of, and the price varies a lot. Price is not very important though - maximum silencing power is. The ones I have found are: Smart Drive, reviewed at silentpcreview: http:...

I live in Sweden, and here we have Seasonic's entire lineup. I'm sure they are available if you look around.

But if this happened, it's not like the voltage would go from 12V to 220V in half a second, right? The voltage would go up gradually. Surely the motherboard has some kind of alarm/shutdown mechanism for this situation?

Modding nervousness: What happens if it overheats?

I just modded my SeaSonic Super Tornado 400W PSU so that I can manually adjust the fan's rotation speed with a Zalman Fan-Mate. As always when I have modded something to quiet it down, I'm nervous what would happen if it overheated. So, what would happen if a PSU overheated? I don't really care if t...

I'll just buy two more of those zalman hd cages that have dampening around the screwholes. However, I only have two large drive bays left. I'm note sure how to fix the third drive that I can't fix this way.

Seagate disks loudest component in system by far

Hello, I thought this would be the place to ask this question. I just built a new system - 3,2 ghz P4 Northwood, Zalman cnps7000-cu, and a Radeon 9800 pro with a passive zalman cooler. I also have a Seasonic Super Tornado 400W. I was quite surprised to find that it was quite loud when I booted it. N...
