Some numbers are here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/phenom-x4-965,2389-2.html although its not very detailed, it should give some idea. There doesn't seem to be a huge difference. I am more of the belief these days that the majority of people don't need the power that is available. What littl...

Fair enough, is 500 GB the cheapest you can get? /looks at msy, hmm yeah its not much saving there! SSD for OS was the first thing I thought of until you mentioned your budget constraints! Maybe you are better off going with a single drive now and saving for an SSD later? Unless you are recording a ...

Why 2 HDD's? Should be cheaper to buy one larger one (or is it specifically to have OS seperated from audio data?)?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN0LDjHZ4NQ This video (not me, no relation, just random vid I googled) shows replacing the top of a MCP655 (D5) pump. Its literally a replacement for the top part of the pump. In the case of the MCP350/355 it adds a bunch of performance ( http://martin.skinneelabs.co...

I'll second either the MCP350 or MCP655 vario. The 655 is physically larger so may cause some problems with placement, but allows changing the speed without requiring a beefy fan controller.

Whichever one you get I'd suggest an after market top, both for performance and noise reasons.

Fair enough, I haven't actually tried any of the local ones... I got the "known good" ones from Petras last year.... when the AUD was riding high it was worth doing! But compared to the price of S-Flex's and Noctuas, you can buy several to get a good one! $50 for a fan... ouch! Really seems like you...

Can you order from pccasegear.com.au? Shipping will be a bit more but the prices seem to be much cheaper (nexus from 12 AUD).

EDIT:
Do you ship internationally? No.
Seems not :( What about other Australian stores? gammods.com.au might ship to you (email him), he has YLs for 10 bucks I think.

I don't think any fan at 1400+ rpm is quiet by SPCR standards! I do find them several hundred rpm quieter than Yate Loons tho (if that makes sense). At 800 rpm I find them very quiet, below ambient noise in my room (I do live in the city however, so I wouldn't call my room silent by any stretch) -- ...

For anyone else looking at this, AP15 is the 1850 rpm one, and AP14 is the 1450rpm one. I have the 1850 rpm ones (5 of them!) on my radiators. They are remarkably unnoticeable for fans running at full speed, but they are by no means quiet. I like having the faster fans for the option of running them...

Yeah I have a lot, I basically filled a 2nd case just with radiators. They do have fans on them, but they run pretty slow. And it keeps my highly overclocked computer nice and cool even on the hot days!

The zalman case looks really interesting, I am very curious how its going to turn out!

No, I don't have heat problems, but I also have a bit of an overkill cooling system (120x3, 120x2 and 140x3 radiators). Actually thats not entirely true. I had some ram sticks die that I am pretty sure was heat related. They were running to spec, but I didn't have any air flow over them... and they ...

My study gets that hot, or hotter in summer... nothing like some summer heat to really test your cooling system! hehe. I would suggest you get a 60 or 120 GB SSD to run your OS and applications, and then a cool and quiet 5400 rpm 2TB HDD for everything else. Gives you the best of both worlds (of cou...

I don't have any experience with that pump, although it would have to be pretty bloody noisy to be louder than a video card! :) I have a D5 vario with EK top, and I find it very quiet (on full!). My HDDs are louder (I have 3, and they are old). The vario also had an easy way to change the speed (and...

It is a massive price difference, but I've recently gone from YLs to GTs, and I have to say the difference is pretty big, and I feel it was worth it. They are much heavier, feel much better quality than YL, and, if you are mounting them horizontally, should last much longer. They also feel like they...

PCCG has nexus, which are basically re-labeled YL's (although apparently higher QC?), 5 for $49, which isn't too bad. Both gammods and pccg have them, not as cheap tho. If you order a decentamount it's probably cheaper to order them from the us. I got a bunch from petras tech shop a while back for about $8 each (shipped)

Given you could buy 6 Yate Loons for the same price, and they do work fine for a while horizontally.... I've had them mounted horizontally for 18 months or so, but even if you expect them to only last 12 months..... you've just got 6 for the price of one noise blocker.

Just a thought :)

Is the clip tight? Can you wriggle the fan when its attached? If so, it could still be vibrating.

Try mounting the fan with some rubber separating it from the heat sink. It might reduce the amount the heat sink is vibrating (assuming its not just air noise). Also, its entirely possible you will be able to run the fan at a slower speed than previously, as the GTs are good at pushing air through r...

Its definitely possible. Once you have determined if they sound the same outside of any mounting (ie outside the case), you can determine if one or both need to be de-coupled from the case. Its possible they are causing vibrations which make them sound louder. Its also possible that the sound of the...

Reliability concerns with SSDs are definitely the worst thing about them. I only just received mine back from RMA today! Go for an SSD. Random writes are MUCH better on an SSD vs a HDD. HDD's strength is sequential IO, and SSDs is random... but they do pretty nicely on sequential anyway. Regarding the water block on the UD7. Its copper. I believe the zalman stuff is aluminium, so this will cause galvanic corrosion. Yo...

Yeah they are hard to find, and not cheap when you do find them. They look amazing.

The GT's have a pretty low starting voltage too, lower than the YLs seem to (using the highly scientific method of seeing how far round the fan controller knob is).
