You're welcome. On a more humorous note, when I was going to check the wall socket voltage, I switched the vom from ac amps to volts and stuck the probes into the socket. Kapow! I forgot to change the probes at the meter end from amps to volts. Melted about 1/2" off one of the probes. :) Just filed ...

Yesterday afternoon, I rigged up a pc power cord so that the amps drawn by the device attached could be measured. I separated the hot lead of the cord and attached alligator clips to the bare wire, to hold the test leads of a Radio Shack vom, #22-174b. Crude, but it works. Test subjects: Samsung 152...

Yeah, a P4 with HT, running 2 instances, makes a great folder, that's about it, though. Any Barton will fold at least equal to a non-HT P4 2.4 at half the price. Intel cpu's with SSE2 will flat fly throug dbl gromacs making as much as 2,000 + ppw. I would assume that an A64 would do as well - I don'...

Re: Don't use W2K and HT. Ok, I'll agree that there's no reason to buy w2k instead of xp. Since I already have w2k, ht seems to work satisfactorily on it and folding is the only thing that the box does, I can't get excited at all about buying another copy of xp. W2k has, umm, other advantages, also. M

A Zalman CNPS 7000 should fit on most Intel cpu boards. I tried an ASUS P4P800-VM and a Foxconn 865M01 and both fit with the Foxconn board having the cpu a little closer to the front of the case. A Swiftech MCX478 will also fit, with the psu literally sitting on about 3/4" of the back of the hs fan ...

Note that the Foxconn board does not allow the cpu/fsb ratio to be adjusted.
This one does. I had one for a couple of weeks and didn't seem to really have a lot of success with folding on it. Seemed slower than my other Intel boards. Cheap, tho and good for oc.

Hey mas92264 , what mobo are you running the 2.4A Prescott on? Foxconn 865M01-G-6LS (matx.) I also ran the same cpu on an ASUS P4P800-VM for a few days. The ASUS board, with no oc features, allows SpeedFan to control the cpu fan speed. The Foxconn board, with fsb asjustable in the bios or with a ut...

Come to think of it, HT requires Windows XP. I'll be damned before I'll buy another copy. So much for the 3.06. Hmm. Checked at MS and there's some mention of HT apparently working on 2000 Server, but no direct mention of HT working on 2000 Pro. Intel says, "The following desktop operating systems ...

Had the same deal with a Seagate scsi drive, which had been running 24/7 for about 3 1/2 years, last year. Reboot and no spin. Took the drive out and set up another box with a scsi card and got the drive to spin up by plugging in the molex connector while the box was runnning. Was then able to peel ...

Yeah, the non ht P4's aren't great folders for the $. My 2.4A (Prescott) is currently working on p212, 135pts, with average frame times over 62 frames of 21:24 for about 636 ppw. About the same as a 2400+ T'bred or 2500+ Barton, or maybe a little less depending on the wu. Maybe let it grind through ...

I just put a system together for a friend and used a 2.6 Celeron because of budgetary constraints. It made for a snappy, cool running system - for a general use system, it's fine. Folded a few frames on it, just for fun, and it was a little slower than my 2000+ Palomino. So, for folding, as David's ...

I think that sounds like a great plan too!! The simpler the better. But how do I tell if F@H is running ok on a machine with no monitor? That's the only glitch I can see. Get EMIII. I use it to monitor several headless machines - it'll let you know if something goes wrong with the headless machine....

Update. Put the P4P800-VM board in an Antec Aria case with the P4 2.8E, Swiftech MCX478 hs and PCP&C 92x25 fan. Had to take the psu out in order to get the board inside with the hs and fan attached. Yeah, I had some of those "core out of date" things too. The only ones that I noticed doing this would seem to start a new wu, dump it immediately, then download a new core. Was ok then and started folding again. Appears that the solution would be to del all the stuff in the folding dir, as Doug did...
