Re: using silent fans to build myself a...

They do make external 4 pin power supplies, you see them sometimes for external hard drive setups. Here's one I found with a basic google search: http://www.ebay.com/itm/External-Power-Supply-12V-DC-4-Pin-Molex-Adapter-Cable-/360170366699 One of those would be the obvious way to go, with a fan contr...

Yeah, that happens sometimes. On foldingforum.org, the only advice they usually give is to reduce any downclocking. But sometimes, a WU is just bad. Try deleting all the unit data, and see if it will pick up another WU. Keep an eye on the project numbers (in your case Project: 7504 (Run 19, Clone 38...

Yeah, those were the days. They used to carry that in afternoon cartoon time when I was a kid. Lots of action and futuristic tech, but it did always seem vaguely racist.

Re: Stopped getting bigadv WUs. Is it me?

Yeah, I've got 2 machines doing smp jobs now, only one bigadv. Although they're still hanging in, my 2600k linux box is doing a 7506 WU at 37.8k ppd now, so that's cool, my total ppd is around 109k ppd, but if I get 3 smp jobs, it'll drop for sure. Ugh.

Yeah, I've been seeing the same thing too. It happens sometimes. I'll check around and see if I can find anything.

Ah, looks like they're shifting some servers around. Hopefully back to normal soon.

Hey, thanks! My standing on the user list is stuck in the low 180s, but it is nice to keep racking the points up. And hey, I've made some fixes to my big brass box, I should be posting that sometime soon. But thanks again for the support everyone!

Re: Motherboard recommendations

I think you can get more bang for the buck with a dual xeon board. Not sure how the latest of those are doing, but in previous reports I've read from people, the older ones can rack up in the hundred thousand ppd range, folding bigadv, of course. Usually wind up being pretty expensive, but they have...

Re: 9,000,000!!!!!

Oh yeah, always set windows to update only when you ok it, otherwise things can go sideways. You may want to shut down the gpu folding if you get close to the deadline. It does sap a little cpu to keep going. I usually run on one less core when I run gpus and bigadv on the same system. It keeps thin...

Re: GPU recommendations?

Yeah, I agree with SebRad, if you want a truly quiet folding system, you'll need a better cooler. The 212 is ok on the cheap, but for high performance you'll need something better. A big prolimatech or noctua cooler would probably work best. You can have the folding and the quiet, but you may need t...
