But this one i m-ATX - and if I later on add in a separate VGA card, I want a passive cooler, most likely the passive Arctic-Cooling Acceleros... Then there's no room for PCI cards... X2 comes with the burden of AM2, which is close to or at EOL. P45 will be the last Intel Chipset for S775, because Intel is moving to Nehalem and new socket. E8400 is just as much EOL as any X2. So this argument is moot. Performance wise it's nowhere near as good. True, but it's still less then hal...

CPU is a-okay for any sort of purpose, best value for money in dualcores. I have to disagree. E7200 is much better value imo, and so is X2 4850e, when you consider E8400 costs twice as much as X2 4850e. You'll appreciate the modular PSU when you're putting together or fixing that rig, so go ahead a...

This thread should have been made under system advice... Anyway I would go the budget route with Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H and X2 4850e. Why Gigabyte over Asus? Better features like eSata, DVI-I, firewire, optical S/PDIF... Plus it's cheaper. AMD system will also be at least 25% cheaper then any E7200 ...

Intel's Atom could technically revolutionize the MP (Multi-Processor) scene again though. Imagine a server motherboard with 8 or more Atoms embedded, running multi-terrabyte arrays...they have the grunt for it, and it would definitely reduce the power those servers devour. I don't think so. Nothing...

The new system will be picoPSU-fueled, 4850E based (never heard of? :) ), on a M2A-VM HDMI motherboard (I still need TV-output, so 780G ruled out  ). I'm just waiting for a couple of piece from my shop (mostly the CPU :( ) and then I'll fire it, hoping it won't burn... err, I'll turn it on an...

Take a look the post by MikeC in this thread: It's not always so simple, as shown by Config #3 in the Mini P180 review . A Scythe Slipstream 120mm fan rated at 800 RPM was used. Initially, it was run at full speed (12V), but it was judged to be too audible. A damping resistor was used to pull the s...

Yeah P35 motherboards are expensive and they aren't exactly stacked with features. ASRock Penryn1600SLI-110dB is 99$ at newegg. It's based on nForce 650i, but at least it has 6-pin IEEE. But it drives the price difference to 50$. 50$ doesn't look so good anymore, when you consider that 50$ could be ...

I've done a couple of searches on here and people talk of coil whine on the motherboard, do you think this is what it is? Yes, what you described is coil whine. When I bought my computer 2,5 years ago. I was suffering from coil whine. My culprit was the IGP on my Asus A8N-VM CSM. Some things helped...

Looks very nice set-up. Intel makes faster CPU's but considering that you want to build able budget machine 4850e will do its job wonderfully and it will take less power than Intel counter parts. My personal preference would only drive me towards an AMD processor to make use of the 780G IGP. The di...

I don't think it's pointless at all. If something's wrong, I'd want to know exactly what it is even if it's not much of an issue if at all. If the ninja is defective, that's something any buyer would want to know. But his Ninja is working just like anyone elses Ninja. Original SPCR sample was a sup...

Re: Underwhelming Ninja Performance ?
Pretty much all the conversation here has been pretty pointless, because there is nothing wrong with your Ninja temps. FWIW I too have s939 Ninja on an undervolted x2 3800+ and my idle temps are usually 40 Celsius. I'm not sure how slow my cpu fan is, but it's the slowest fan in my computer. 20% set...

You're going on the assumption that he's using the Tri-Cool on low. I assumed that no one would replace a Tri-Cool on low with a higher speed fan AND expect it to be quiet. I would think if he's replacing a Tri-Cool with a 1200rpm fan, he's been running it on medium (~1400rpm) which is NOT quiet, a...
