extending its life (yeah, thats what they said to me), but I think its very debatable that they feel they need to do this. None of my old HDD's have broken, so I am waggling my poor design finger at them. Not to mention the fact that they forgot to include all the factors for increased life when the...

Thanks for those tips ppl. I've stuck my head inside the machine when it was running and moved my ear over the loudest squeal area. My head was definately above the AGP slot, but there are also mobo components around the slot. There is no graphics card fan (modded with Zalman heatpipe), and I have s...

Re: Just in time

Thanks , I am trying to figure which drive to buy and this comments might help :) . Do you have some info about how good is it on other issues, like ripping, burning, reading comptabilty, ect. ? Tom's Hardware reviewed it at this link http://www6.tomshardware.com/storage/20031027/dvd_burner-13.html...

My PC is on carpet with underlay. But this is on MDF boards, as the house is modern and therefore does not have floorboards. Unfortunately the house was wet when built and the joists that the boards are on have shrunk. The fans in my computers (all computers that I have tried) resonate the floor und...

I need some advice about my Antec True Power 380

I like my power supply, all apart from the noise that it makes. I believe that this unit has both an 80mm and 92mm fan inside. I have read that it is perfectly possible to change the fans inside the PSU. Now to the advice that I need: - can I get away with using only one 92mm papst fan and remove bo...

I have a Samsung floopy drive. Its slightly better than average, but its not as good as the best that I have come across.

Unfortunately the best one that I came across was a business PC and I did not manage to gain permission to strip it to find out what make it was :(

That's why I took a risk and bought the Hitachi 7K250 120GB SATA drive instead. This was a great move, the drive is almost completely silent ! I would be very interested to hear if your new Hitatchi drive has done away with the annoying reset noise. In order to tell if you drive does this, you need...

I have bad news for you on the Seagate 7200.7. I am currently using one. - the drive has no detectable idle whine - the drive is clearly audible when seeking (significantly louder than a Hitachi with acoustic management enabled) - the drive also has a lot of buzzing/clicking at idle - see other post...

LG GSA-4040B DVD-/+RW, DVD-RAM

I purchased this drive a week ago and have found it to be the quietest optical drive that I have ever come across. In my life I have probably only come across 50 different makes of drive (maybe a few more), so I am no guru, but the GSA-4040B is much quieter than any of the Dell optical drives I have...

Silencing your case with dice

Hi I have read a lot of posts in these forums, most of them with excellent advice on how to silence your PC. Now you all may know about this, so I'm sorry if I'm covering old ground, but there is a very simple solution to help reduce the noise coming from your case. Ok, don't laugh at me now.... I u...

If I boot my machine into its BIOS or MS-DOS (note, not DOS mode), the problem still occurs. Therefore, disabling Windows indexing will not help me, but thanks for the post, cos windows indexing has caused me some problems in the past.

Your post was not too negative at all. Some of us were having problems in locating an outlet for these drives, the best one that I was able to find was Savastore. Thanks for letting me know about Komplett, they have now been added to my favourites. Btw - do you have any comments on Komplett's custom...

Squealing AMD motherboard or graphics card and 12V connector

As I was browsing through the PSU's section I noticed that some people have reported that they get a loug squealing noise from the motherboard if they are using an nforce2 chipset and the 12V connecter. I am also suffering from a load intermitant squealing noise that is either coming from the mother...

I was just reading this topic and noticed that someone mentioned Samsung's new drive and Savastore.

I have found this link that will take you to the 160Gb ATA133 model, hope that helps someone :)

I have exactly the same problem with my Seagate 7200.7 Man I am sick of HDD's atm. I have got 3 120Gb drives now, all recommended by one group or another (only the Seagate by SPCR) and all of them have given me grief. The Western Digital had to be RMA'ed before it shook apart my machine. The replace...

I have a Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP. I have used Hitachi' tools to place the drive into its silent mode. It makes a massive difference. To be honest in normal use my Deskstar's seek's were cleared audible, but were not intrusive (to me). With the drive in its silent mode I can still hear it seeking thr...

I have an Antec True Power 380W and a Chieftec 420W. They are both as loud as each other. The Antec Supply is also as load as my Mesh 250W supply. The drive was mounted conventially in this system The drive was then used in this system, Chieftec 420W (im going to swap that out for my 380W Antec). The drive is now mounted on its side. ...

Hitatchi Deskstar 180GXP 120Gb's annoying "reset"

I have been using one of these drives over the last couple of months. I was quite happy with the drive, but even though it had a fluid bearing, there was still noticable drive motor noise. This noise was no different to my old 30Gb IBM Deskstar drive. The seeking noise of the newer 180GXP is a great...
