This will be the last post that I quote the legitreviews forums (he's just full of fun information): I just got off the phone with ASUS-USA (yes, they are closed for good Friday, but for some reason they are talking to Legit Reviews today due to the article we posted) Next on the list is the ever po...

Regarding the anandtech article, Their benchmarks are good, I disagree with their conclusions. Namely, what I saw was a great desktop computer for the things I use a desktop for: games, general productivity, and the internet. The places that Anandtech said it was "dissappointing" are processes that ...

Quieter workstations/servers...
Here's an interesting article. Not sure if anyone's posted this from www.2cpu.com before. It's one of the first holistic attempts I've seen to sell a quieter workstation/server. So before people blanche at the quoted DBA and fan rpm's, remember the audience this is for are used to far, far worse aco...

Just an idle thought: Moderators, isn't this a duplicate thread? One of you folks was quite "on the ball" closing duplicate threads regarding the Pentium M socket 479 - 478 adapter recently. You may as well close this thread and reference the original thread in the same vein.... That way anyone new ...

I have a bias against suspension. Not for any good reason though. For instance, I do not believe suspension is a major issue during transportation. Those bungee type cords can be as secure and taut as you want them to be. If anything jarred them, you'd have bigger issues during transport. So I think...

I want to like this case. But I think it's giving a lot of "almost..." features. If you wanted an expensive fanless HTPC you could look at a Hush ATX. If you wanted a quiet gaming rig, then you have size, price, and a thermal limit to contend with. If you wanted a cool smallish form factor, then it ...

Great, if you have time, can you also compare performance to a relatively stock 3.5" 7200 8mb drive? It would be interesting to see current performance differences so people know what they lose (or do not lose) if they switch to a 2.5" 5400rpm drive on their desktop for the sake of silence. I keep h...

BitterJitter, Yes I know that. As I alluded, a whole host of things would have to go wrong for something bad to happen. On the flip side, I have seen cpus and psus "blow up" due to a failed temp sensor. The chances of that leading to a "series of unfortunate events" may be small but you never know. ...

With high quality fans like the Nexus 120mm I see no benifit of a fanless pc over a much cheaper AMD64 system with two 400rpm fans (psu and cpu). I can see one (or two) * Maintenance: No fans = less dust buildup. Less Maintenance = a more legitimate home theatre "appliance" = more Wife friendly. * ...

Like sthayashi said: Dothan appears to have slightly reduced performance compared to A64 alongside with much reduced heat*. This allows us to do things with Dothan that we never would have thought about doing with a PC-class processor before And that, to me is the only reason to think about an Intel...

I think the the fanless nature of this particular model is more 'cause they are using the Ultra-Low Voltage Pentium M models (1.0ghz and 1.1 ghz) that are designed to be run fanless (7 watt TDP). Carbon-fibre's main strength is reduced weight, I've never hear of it being great as a heat dissipator, ...

I'll be sticking to AMD, methinks. For me it's more: I'll stick with single core for at least another year. Regarding the Zalman forums. I've been reading posts on their website for about 2 years now and you know why the site seems "weird"? * They are amazingly honest and succinct with their answers. Hmm, now that you mention it, I wonder exactly what is the difference with this particular model vs a standard psu. From the images, it doesn't look to have amazingly different thermal engineering, except for that the fan cage/heatfin thingy that hopefully dumps some heat outside of the case. Hmm, m...

Rethinking Fanless psu's impact on system heat
Here's a link from HTPCnews regarding a 0dba PSU. It is basically fanless except when the power load>250watts, at which load 80mm fan kicks in. What caught my eye was I'm a semi-regular HTPCNews reader. Their reviews are: a) pretty good from a silent perspective b) relevant to us because the compone...
