What about using Arctic alumina adhesive? Oh, I don't know, maybe because it isn't a CPU cooler in the first place? Or maybe because it's specifically stated by Arctic that it should not be used with a CPU? There's just so many reasons... They only say that because it's a "permanent" solution, whic...

Thanks! It doesn't turn the fan totally off, but Nvidia's 0% is less than EVGA's 25%. It's a start. I'll look into the bios thing as well, because nvidia's thing doesn't seem to be working for custom temperature-based RPM management. I wouldn't want to force the fan to 0% and have my brother play a ...

The nexus "real silent" 80mm fan was just what, "real silent", for me. I don't know that it moves much air though. It's the only fan that I could not tell if it was on or not at 5volts (although it didnt move any air at that voltage. It was quiet at 10V. Again, 110% inaudible at 5V, but probably did...

nvidia fan control, howto less than 25%

Most utilities (RIVATUNER, EVGA precision) allow you to control the fans on some nvidia cards between 25% and 100% (or 'automatic mode', which in my case, has a idle of 40%)

Anyone know how I can make it lower than 25%?

I have a Palit GTX260 SP.

I got the feeling im going have to use a resistor

Dell has some _very_ nice service manuals on their website for the majority of their computers. Here is yours: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins2200/en/SM/index.htm It looks like there's a miniPCI slot, with which you can install a wireless card, although you may need to get creative...

I have a 24" dell ultrasharp, and I think it's too big. I don't like turning my neck. I just sold it it to someone.

5870 might be big for 'some gaming' but thr 27W idle is nice, and I'm planning on playing games on high.

I want a fridge in my room for cold drinks, and maybe sandwich stuff, gotta be damn near 0db though, if not, gotta have a nice sound character.

You could buy HP's elitebook (the macbook clone).

If you're into high resolutions, dell probably has some interesting options for you.

You can also install windows on the mac.

Calling all NEW Dell owners

Would you please post (i.e. test) if your new-gen dell supports i8kfangui for fan control? I'm looking into newer inspirons or studio notebooks. Typically dell is generous - letting the temps slip to 70C before fans are turned on. This is awesome as web browsing, even youtube (non-HD), often keeps t...

Replace the thermal paste they used with your own premium one, and do a good job putting it on.

Then undervolt the fan with a custom made inline resistor :)

Voids warranty though, maybe.
