Re: GA-8I945GMMFY-RH experiences

Nice system! I'm considering building a system next month along somewhat similar lines -- same mobo and case, possibly the 2.16 MHz Merom (T7400). A few questions: What heatsink did you use? How much room is there for a heatsink underneath the PSU with this mobo? Did you need to or choose to place a...

If you add a graphics card, thus disabling on-board graphics,
would a G chip drop to the wattage of a P chipset? (e.g. G965->P965,
945G->945P)

You will then need to hack the kernel to change the values obtained from the BIOS. You can have a read to this topic in the Gentoo forums, even though it is about AMD64 (should be the same issue with Intel processors). Fortunately, a smart guy has implemented an easier way to achieve this: CPU Powe...

How do you plan to undervolt? Directly from the BIOS or using a software like RMClock or CrystalCPUID? Generally the later way provides more flexibility (the BIOS will not let you set any voltage and only for the nominal speed, not for the various SpeedStep states) Thanks ... I wasn't aware that BI...

microATX conroe motherboard with undervolting?

Greetings, I'm trying to design my next system, and slogging through the descriptions of the various motherboards is giving me a headache. Plus, I don't trust boards that overclock to necessarily let me undervolt; my current mb (see sig) will let me manually over volt but won't go below stock/auto v...

Hmm. My AXP3200 is working pretty well. When busy (by what I really do, not stressed by benchmarks) the CPU reports about 45C at about 24C ambient. It idles at about 39C. I can see two possible points ... I'm running just an Athlon XP 2600+, right now it's mildly oc'ed from 2083 to 2210 MHz. Also, I...

Hmmph! My 3-4 year old system (see sig) draws 135 watts at idle!
While that's bad news about my system, as measured by a kill-a-watt
meter, the good news would be that my next system can obviously do
better. Lots better.

I'm planning to do something very similar with the TJ08 in the
next three to six months. Let us know how it turns out! Are
you considering a fanless power supply?

Energy budget calculations for new system

Hi, I've been lurking in SPCR for several months, much to my benefit, and now I'm to the point where I'm checking alternatives for a possible new system. I'd like to draw up an energy budget for each alternative, because this can affect choice of PSU, # of fans, etc. It's not too hard to find watts ...
