Good luck finding an Asus CT-479. Ebay.de has 2 (expensive) offers. You probably need AGP and DDR? I'd recommend a socket 939 solution.tehfire wrote:I know some Asus boards had support for an adapter so you could use s479 processors on a s478 board.

Sorryy, socket 478 is dead. According to processorfinder.Intel.com, there's is no CPU available with less than a TDP of 82 W and there are is no idle vcore management (C1E).
82 W TDP, 130 nm, 3,2 GHz: http://processorfinder.intel.com/detail ... Spec=SL6WG

I'd like to shed some light into the question how much power the G33 needs. It's contenders are the nvidia single-chip chipsets and an AMD solution with 690G. Do you know any articles? I can present two figures by the german printed magazine C't. They contradict each other, though. I already e-maile...

Get a mobile chip or a L2-stepping. Power consumption is quite down with these, it's quite useless wait for the future. Cipset choice is more important.

Well. With the new L2-stepping and the G33 it's getting better for Intel. Have a look here . The G33 needs less power, and I've seen power figures which put it in the same region as X2 + 690G in a printed magazine. But I've also seen figures which see AMD still in the lead ;) So being conservative, ...

Frequency is nearly irrelevant, only the vcore counts here. And that's 1.1 V for the Athlon 64 and 1.15 V for the desktop Core 2 Duo. How much the CPUs draw in idle is also determined by the manufacturing process. As an example, look at the Core 2 Duo which evolved pretty well as you can see here.

Well the web is short-lived. I updated the first post with figures from the 45 W Athlon X2 Brisbanes. Note the higher power consumption when the CPU is cooled passivly resulting in higher temperatures. Idle power consumption is higher since the Asus motherboard does not goes back to 1,1 V during CnQ...

Two new diagrams including Athlon X2 and Core 2 Duo L2-stepping. One thing to notice: They tested on the Asus M2N-E (nforce 570 ultra) and the Asrock Alive SATA2-GLAN (K8T890). The Asrock was significantly worse under load than the Asus. The Asrock seems to have a cheap 4-phase VRM while the Asus us...

Digerati, my post was a follow-up. The listed units were mediums, no burners. Look up in the thread. About the noise: The C't tests in sone and I have two figures. The first is reading CDs and the second is reading Video-DVDs. Asus 5,9/2,8 sone LG 8,2/2,7 sone Lite-On 7,4/1,7 sone OptiArc 8,0/7,9 so...

Some words from a german student: I got a Skoda compact car, which nearly fits all my household. I'm driving 80 mph on the Autobahn at 40 mpg. On rural roads I get 45 mpg. Gas price is 7 $/gallon at the moment. I once was a fan of diesel technology, and it's very popular in Germany because the tax o...

Computerbase.de has a test with DDR2-800, the P35 looses. But they compare the Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Edition versus Asus P5B-E Plus. I put the Fortron Zen 400 W on the wish list since it seems the most efficient ATX PSU as far as I can see.

Well DVD burners ought to be cheap. So they are loud while playing DVD, burn DVDs and CDs badly and don't read scratched media well. The german printed magazine C't did a test in their recent issue. Only offline and german, though. What I can tell you: Always burn with 8x for +-R and with 4x for -+R...

The review at dirkvader really praises the PSU. Very slight electronic noise, and very efficient. It's advertised as > 85 %. Just have a look at this picture of the power draw of the test system. Idle: Seasonic S12-380 74 W, Silverstone ST40EF 72 W, Fortron Zen 400 W 66 W. Load: Seasonic S12-380 121...
